"steal more" setting?

PostFri Aug 28, 2020 8:57 am

Does anybody know if the "steal more" setting for hitters...
A) just increases the frequency of that runner TRYING to get the good lead/jump & his higher steal score before stealing
B) Attempts more steals whether the runner gets his optimal "lead/jump" or not
C) Still requires a probable success rate in sending the runner
D) Any/all of the above?

For instance, if a runner needs a 2 to get his optimal jump and an 18 steal rating -- but only has an 8 steal rating without the jump -- will "steal more" cause him to try low % steal attempts even when he doesn't get the good lead/jump benefit?
If anybody knows for sure, I'd be grateful to know too. Thanks!

I don't use steal more very often but I think it lets Hal take more risks overall, like trying to steal third too often.

Thanks, that sounds about right as I have had/seen some runners being thrown out trying to steal third when it didn't make a lot of sense to even try that.

Yeah, I see a lot of illogical attempts to steal third even without Steal More set. It would be nice if you can specify 2nd and 3rd aggressiveness separately.

I never use the Steal More setting. When I did, I started having C stealers stealing home, probably on a 1-2 chance. Unless it was a Never Steal runner like Sherm Lollar, it was steal much too often.

I have been doing SOM C&D since 1967. I have been on and off for a few years now. I have been doing at least 7 games a week for the last 3 years or so.
I have implemented a new system for stealing.
Below is the chart I use for a good lead.
Roll D6. If a hitter has a 10 or lower Run rating he has no chance to seal.
Rating is 11, he needs a 6 to try to steal.
Rating is 12-13, he needs a 5 or 6 to steal.
Rating is 14-15, he needs a 4,5,6 to steal
Rating is 16-17, he needs a 3,4,5,6 to steal
A 1or 2 has no steal chance.
Seems to work out really well otherwise I would be doing very little stealing

I use Steal More all the time, and I set the base stealing to Aggressive. I tried Very Aggressive with a team, and it produced more outs ratio than before- but that is the only way you get big totals. I am not sure of the exact percentages that are changed.

I would advise to choose Do Not Steal for each runner that has a low chance, in Hitters Preferences. This will keep your C runners from trying to steal home, etc.. I have actually never seen the computer steal home.

HAL reacts very well to Aggressive base running and stealing. I use Steal More on my guys who get 19 or 20 leads. 16,17,18 leads, I leave unchecked and let the computer decide.

Hope this helps broski

Hal does like to have runners tag up from second..I swear when that happens the runner is always thrown out

I build a lot of speed teams and always use the same settings unless I am trying to break a record or win a contest.

I set my "good" base stealers (which is usually the entire team) for "Steal More". Then I set the Team Stealing setting to "Conservative" this reduces the number of attempts to steal 3rd and home from my experience. The overwhelming majority of the time, I lead the league in both steals and steal success % (which is typically between 75%-80%).

For base running, with a speed team (all 16's or better for example), I ALWAYS select "Very Aggressive" baserunning and my team takes a TON of extra bases over the course of a season.

Here's a good example:
