As a relative newbie (currently in my 5th league), my teams have "underperformed" for the most part. I couldn't figure out why opposing poorly hitting teams were hitting so well against my high salary pitchers. And why my huge lineup was hitting well (good BA & slugging) but not scoring consistently enough to win.

And yes, I have read many of the newbie threads. But I think i have found a post that best summarizes what I've fundamentally been missing. Inadequate defensive range and OBP are the keys to the shortcomings of my particular teams. The following post should be required reading for a newbie:
