I think there will be opportunities to add to any team that is voted in. It depends on what minimums we want to set. For example, the 1999 DBacks have 12 hitters with over 180 plate appearances, and 8 pitchers over 60 innings. That would give five open slots, using that eligibility bar.

Wouldn't that defeat the objective to add more useful cheap bench cards to the deck?

Cheap bench players have nothing to do with Goon monster cards.

Hoping to reboot the discussion to the task at hand (5 extra D-Back cards).

We have room for 5 at-large cards. One more reliever needed and 4 position players (2 cheaper cards).

Possible extras:

2001 Byung-Hung Kim RP - 2.94era 1.04whip 4R righty R2 (on '99 team also, but only 27 IP)
2001 Craig Counsell IF - nice utility player from '01 WS team (2b 2 e4, ss 3 e18, 3b 3 e12, 1b 3 e25)
2010 Chris Young CF - 257/341/452 cf 1 (+2) 27hr 28sb (gives AZ a RH option in CF)
2011 Justin Upton RF - 289/369/529 rf 2 (-3) A 1-17 31hr (AZ needs everyday RF option)
2012 Willie Bloomquist UT - 302/325/398 ss 3 e10, 3b 3 e15, lf 3(0) e3 (14 yrs MLB, 3 w/AZ, cheap card)

I'm partial to adding the two 2001 WS team cards, but mostly neutral on the others.

Thanks,
Bill

I think it's a nice opportunity to have a card for Tony Clark

2005 Tony Clark 393 PAs, 304/.366/.636/1.003 OPS+154 Union president. No card.

I'm fine with trying to fit Tony Clark in, pending further ideas from the community. We just need to be sure the 5 at large spots include a reliever, a good right fielder, and a cheap card.

If not here, then perhaps he's a nomination for the 19.3 individual card add.

I like the two 2001 suggestions, and love that little Bloomquist card! Upton is ok I guess (e14 in RF would mean I'd never use it). Couldn't care either way about the other cf (whose name I've already forgot)

can I suggest the 2009 Justin Upton card instead of the 2011? He had a better batting avg that year and has pretty big power off of lefties.

300/366/532 rf3 (-2) A 1-15 26HR

other possibilities that came to mind are the 2007 Orlando Hudson, 1998 Devon White (It'd be nice to get an expansion year player in there) and 2005 Troy Glaus

I think the 2011 is a better overall card for AZ, as he would be their only real everyday player in right field. He hit righties better that year and is a 2 (-3). Re the other cards, White and Glaus only played one year for AZ, so they aren't ideal "extra" candidates. Hudson would be fine, but the goal is to make the D-Backs playable as a franchise and we need to be sure to add enough of the cheaper cards for that. They generally don't make it into the set any other way.

Thanks,
Bill
