SP Settings and Fatigue

PostThu Feb 09, 2017 2:40 am

Just finished a 3-game series where I had Koufax set to pitch Game 154, but HAL pitched him in Game 155 instead? And unfortunately, this means he will only get one more start for the season.

Koufax' prior start was GM 150 (3rd game of the 3-game series). He obviously didn't get a start in the next series, but HAL did bring him in for relief in Gm 152 (with a F0 fatigue). Fortunately, he got through the inning.

All I can assume is that HAL pushed him out of Gm 154 due to fatigue?? He has thrown 254 inns. STD That has never happened to me before?
Or, my SP settings were corrupted? I don't think these is anyway to go back and see the settings for Gm 154??
Any thoughts?

I am not sure what happened but if it was one of those extremely rare cases where the computer brought Koufax into a game when you were out of pitchers, in relief, he would have to rest at least a day longer than usual. It sounds like bad luck... I am assuming that you did NOT have Koufax listed in a relief role, and this is maybe a non DH league?

As a side note; I do not want my starting pitchers out there if they are even at F8, because I usually have a good bullpen. But I also don't mess with the F-settings.... If you do mess with the F-settings it can be complicated. First of all know that F8 is the least amount of fatigue and F0 means totally fatigued.

Thanks for the reply!

I did have Koufax in the relief role in Series 151-153, as I have been trying to maximize his innings down the stretch. But, I did reset Koufax OFF relief for Series 154-156. And Yes, it is a non-DH league. If Koufax relieved heavy innings in Gm 153, I would not have been surprised by his bump, but only 1 inning in Gm 152 shouldn't have fatigued him?

As for the F setting, I like to set my Ace-SP at F8 to maximize his innings. My bullpen strategy is usually an Ace-Closer + 4 $.750/1.500 LH/RH specialists. I like to use my SP/RP's in the pen on their off-days if appropriate.

Sounds good. But yes, you do not want Koufax to pitch relief innings because then he will not be able to start every four days.

Yes, you paid 10m for Koufax to start and start well every 4 days. Why miss starts for him to make appearances in relief that you cant control.

I learnd a lesson. BUT, I still don't understand why HAL would pass a start because he pitched 1 inning two games earlier??
Lesson learned!

Did akoufax pitch 11 innings in game 150? Or 200-ish pitches?

In Game 15o, Koufax threw 9 innings/129 pitches - not overworked.

Not sure if this link from a couple of years ago is accessible, but, here's Koufax pitching in relief in game 144 and pitching as a starter a game later. Interesting that they seem to have "tightened things up".

I just read this. If Koufax was used in relief in the 151-153 series, then I must assume you did not set him either as a per-game starter for game 154 or in your rotation-by-default. And assuming that you kept the same absence of settings for the next series, then yes, it could really happen that Hal goes for a cheaper starter in game 154 because Hal has no instructions that force him to set Koufax for game 154. Yes, most of the times, Hal will go for the most expansive available starter, but it does happen that Hal doesn't follow this logic--I know because I have cheap Garber in a similar SP/RP role, and it does happen sometimes that Hal prefers the cheaper starter. In my opinion, this has nothing to do if the relief loading, unfortunately since it would make sense that a starter is unavailable because he relieved in a preceding game.
