new theme league Inter Decade Keepers

PostSun Aug 11, 2019 11:22 am

Rules: This league is a 4 season commitment. Each league is 12 teams, 100 mil, std 5/10/20 drop penalty, no DH for the 60s, DH in 70s, 80s, and 90s. For the 60s, there is a 4 round message board serpentine draft based on random draw, with the 4th round being stadiums. Each team must remain in the same franchise's stadium for all 4 decades. At the end of each decade, each owner may keep any player on their roster for the next decade (for example, if Willie Mays is on your roster in the 60s, you can keep him for the 70s). Trading of players and/or draft picks is allowed. The 70s, 80s, and 90s will each have a 2 round serpentine draft based on random draw for the non-playoff teams and 9,10,11,12 for the playoff teams.

There is no limit to the number of keepers you can keep; however, keepers must be posted and must be listed on your autodraft list for the new season. If a keeper is cut, he becomes a free agent.

If you don't get any response for your idea, why don't you consider running this up the flag-pole?
Similar concept but using a range of 20XX seasons instead of the 60s to 90s decades.
I was not the creator or commissioner - just a participant.
It was a league that ran at least 2 seasons and then died on the vine - always thought it was a fun league idea.
This league was designed to run 5 seasons - maybe shorten it, maybe lengthen it...…..? But you need 12 dedicated managers to commit and see it through. Lot of the fun as I saw it was to research the teams to see what your best initial draft selection(s) would be.

"Have not seen a lot of theme leagues lately. I love themes that make it difficult to put out the same teams that i normally draft. I have never set up a theme league before, so here it goes.

THEME-5 Year, 2 Franchise + 1/2 franchise 2009 to 2013
-12 team league/100 million/dh/5/10/20
-Draft 1 full franchise at a time (hitting and pitching of one team), serpentine draft
-After drafting 2 complete franchises you can draft one of the remaining 1/2 franchises (Pitching or hitting) to augment your other 2 franchises

-Your first 2 Franchises will be yours for the entire 5 year stretch. Your 1/2 franchises will go back into the drafting pool for the following season. So if you select the Yankees full franchise, Phillies full franchise and Blue Jays hitting in 2009 start year, you will have the Yanks and Phils for 2010 season. A new 1/2 franchise will be drafted based on criteria of:
1. worst record of 8 non-playoff teams, worst record of 2 losing semi teams, finalist and champion drafts last of course. Tie breakers will be fewest scored, most allowed.

-No trades or pickups from the free agent pool unless players are from your designated franchises
-You must use a stadium from one of the franchises you have selected.

I am hoping to emulate the struggle of maintaining a winner, ups and downs of the players, free agent signings (your new 1/2 franchise would be simulate your needs for following/new season) and the short and long term winning perspective.

So if you are interested please sign up. I am aware that this 5 year team commitment will take about a year. However I expect it might be very interesting because of the swing of team talent every year."

I'm not looking to join a league (only one credit left and don't plan to buy more), but I'd like to put a plug in for the keeper league idea. It's been a highly successful format with the 60s, 70s, and 90s keeper leagues going back many years. The only question I would pose: Is there enough interest in the 80s to support such a league? Hopefully, yes!

Here is a link to the keeper league rules format:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=860&start=10

The one change made I know of is they now redraft their keepers every five seasons.

If you like the 80s and you like the idea of having team continuity but without the work of a pure keeper league, this is the way to go.

Franky was the best manager I ever went up against, and I'm sure he'll be an outstanding commissioner.

the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s league would be a 4 season commitment. Each league would be 12 teams, 100 mil, std 5/10/20 drop penalty, no DH for the 60s, DH in 70s, 80s, and 90s. Count me in for either theme. Although I’d prefer the 4 season theme.
