Change up (A little)

How does this sound?

Free Agent Drop Penalty
NA/5/10/20% - games 1-21 NA, 22-41: 5%, games 42-80: 10%, games 81+: 25%

It's a small change that, I think, would make a significant difference.

No cuts until after game 21.

Not being able to cut a player until game 22 seems a little restrictive. If a player is injured in game 1 you should be able to leverage your knowledge and cut him loose if it makes sense. Not being able to cut an everyday player with 80 at bats because game 22 hasn't been played yet seems unreasonable.

I would love to see a rule in which no player can be cut until after 5 days (not 15 games) of roster time. Of course that would take a bit of custom programming. Too many players get dumped too quickly and there's hardly any history to analyze.

That would be the point, slowing things down some.

With my last team to reach 21 games I had made 19 moves by that point. I am not sure if that is low or high for me but, it seems like a lot. In a MLB season how many moves are actually made in the first 3 weeks of the season?

More thought would have to go into the draft I believe.

It sounds like you're asking for a rule to protect you from yourself!

Myself, I am generally slow to cut players. However, I want to be able to cut immediately, especially if I get a disappointing injury reveal.

Not really for myself. The moves I made improved my team.

Mostly I am thinking about new players. Plus realism, at least getting closer to real.

Being experienced and leveraging that experience is great but, we need to keep new players playing or we will be playing by ourselves you could say.

You can't talk about realism when you sometimes know exactly how a player will perform that season after an injury. You can't match that to real life.

More realistic. It's a game and other than real Baseball it won't be real, I get that. With a game you strive for more realism and of course more fun.
