Please post your 15 keepers on this string. once we have these we will move to the FA draft. Remember your keepers must have been on your game 142 roster.

I've forgotten the rules. Do the Rangers need to list Raphael Palmero and Will Clark on their keepers list although they were not on the Rangers' roster? Do we need to list core5 players on our keeper list? Core4?

This was an email from Rosie near the end of 80s season 1:

"Season 2

To: All
From: Baltimore Orioles (Rosie2167)
Date: Friday, 4/14/2017 2:30pm

Alright as we wrap this first 80s season I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. I know it was longer for some of you than others but I trust the nostalgia of it carried you through those tough summer days.

The plan is to start the Free Agent draft next week (as the draft order is based on season records) so we can load and start the season just as the 80s season 1 World Series wraps up. I'll repost the ins and outs of the draft and roster rules for season 2 soon within the forums.

Anyone with some constructive thoughts around making this better for season 2 fire them over!

tks

From the 80s thread, after season 1, page 11 on forum thread:

Sorry just realized I started this in the wrong string....see below. Mets are up to protect or counter, Cardinals on deck (I have their proxy). WhiteSox in the hole

FREE AGENT SIGNING PERIOD:

The FA period is a two round draft in reverse order of regular season finish where each team can 'sign' pick two players off of another roster, in the case of ties we will use the SOM tie breakers. Those players have to have a card or have been identified per the spreadsheet to have played for the club picking them up. Each club can only lose 2 players to free agency. Immediately after a player is picked from a club the club that lost a player can protect any player still on their roster.

If one of your players is drafted off your roster you have the right to counteroffer for that player by using both your picks to keep him. Then the other club can also 'up' their offer to two picks to acquire that player. If by trade either club has acquired a 3rd or 4th pick than those can be used to 'up' the offer as well. The new club has the tie breaker. If the guy you draft is retained by their existing club you pick again.

Amendment 1:
When its your turn to pick in the FA draft you may elect to pick one of your own players. In that case you don't get to protect another player on your roster as you would if another club selected one of your players.

***Please allow time for the potential interaction per pick. Also remember that the team that loses a guy has to make their protection pick***

From my review of the 80s thread (start at about page 9, for the 80s draft for season 1, and then scroll forward from there), there is no evidence that we did "keepers" at all at the end of season 1. Instead, it looks like all players on the roster at the end of season 1 are all keepers. Then, we did a free agent draft to select players, subject to the FA draft rules.

Agree Rosie?

As we head into the final 30+ games of 90's season 1, some of you are probably already looking forward to retooling your clubs...so I wanted to repost the Free Agency rules and introduce an Amendment 2.

If one of your players is drafted off your roster you have the right to counteroffer for that player by using both your picks to keep him* (see 90's amendment below). Then the other club can also 'up' their offer to two picks to acquire that player. If by trade either club has acquired a 3rd or 4th pick than those can be used to 'up' the offer as well. The new club has the tie breaker. If the guy you draft is retained by their existing club you pick again.

Amendment 1: Adopted in 80s
When its your turn to pick in the FA draft you may elect to pick one of your own players. In that case you don't get to protect another player on your roster as you would if another club selected one of your players.

*New for 90's, Amendment 2:
If one of your players is drafted off your roster AND he's is listed as a Core6+ for you, your counteroffer for that player is only one pick, not the two listed above. The competing club can't up their offer, the bidding is over.

Good luck the rest of the way
Cheers
Rosie "
