I think in the end the next commish will make the call and hopefully when he does he will consider the lessons of this forum draft fiasco.

I don’t think it’s more expedient than an autodraft, and I think scheduled live drafts can be unnecessarily cumbersome, but I see where you’re coming from and respect your opinion here.

On a brief note of hilarity, last years Finals draft (12 managers choosing 7 players and a ballpark) was accomplished in four days (tour record). All it goes to show you is that committed managers can navigate virtually any format. The thing you have to consider though, as toshiro pointed out, is all the “casual” managers!

It’s not more expedient than an auto draft. But it provides more reward to the players who did best over 4/5 seasons.

Question:

Over five seasons, you finished one point ahead of chris_s (who’s also in your semis division). Are you saying that the “proper reward” for that single point is that you should get to pick first in 25 consecutive rounds??

My opinion is that is simply not justified. The parity of the Top 36 managers suggests everyone deserves to have an equal shot at every player in an autodraft. My compromise suggestion continues to be one player and a ballpark (and again, as a “compromise” because I don’t even agree with that).

Another problem is the top half versus bottom half thing. The only managers who agree with “rewards” are the ones on top. They feel completely differently from those with a bottom half perspective. What needs to be addressed is what is fair to everyone without knowing where they will stand ahead of time.

I believe you’re ranking should have more reward than just determining what league and division you’re assigned to. On that would you agree?

Well appears Jimmy James is holding out due to the negative comments. Heck, not sure what we should do here. Very unfortunate and frustrating situation.

Chris got the 2nd pick in his league and I believe that was fair

No, I do not.

Leagues and division assignments are just a hat tip to how tournaments are conventionally constructed. Personally, I couldn’t care less if we did fully randomized autodrafts.

Last year I finished near the top of the standings. This year I finished 35th. Some years, I miss the top 36 altogether. Nothing I’ve seen along the way suggests to me that finishing higher in the top 36 justifies any extra “reward” of any kind. We’ve twisted this whole thing into crazy contortions when all we need is three straightforward autodrafts, without all the board discussions and unnecessary drama.
