No starter available

What would happen to a team with a 5 man pitching staff
(Only 3 who can pitch every fourth day)
who had a sub 200 inning pitcher suffer a long term injury with no relief
pitcher capable of starting . I know during the regular
season you could add a pitcher but what if it happens
in the playoffs ?
I hate to add a low grade starter / reliever to a team
with a 5 man rotation because there is no way to
keep him on the bench .

HAL will pick an RP-only to start. I had Sutter start a game for me in one instance like that.

A reliever will "start", but from my experience typically, he will get pulled almost immediately for another reliever.

I had one time where we were the visiting team and he was pulled before he ever threw a pitch.

my experience is that the reliever with the highest RP rating will be selected (R5 will start before R4...). not necessarily your preferred reliever. if it is a tie amongst your relievers, Hal makes a random selection and will stick with that guy in any future starts as well. (I had Frank Linzy start a few games in this scenario...he made it through about 4 innings)

Wonder what HAL does if a couple of the 5 man rotation r SP/RP who'd pitched in the previous series?

I hate that the highest POW reliever starts. It should be the LOWEST POW that starts because whoever starts becomes an S1. Turning an R4 into an S1 is such a waste, you could really use that R4 in a bullpen game.

I think it was ATG 7 when I faced Murray as a reliever and he pitched 4 or 5 shutout innings.
The next game, he started because of an injury and pitched a complete game shutout.

And back then he was less than $6 million.

Something similar happens if your entire bullpen gets used. Your best starter comes into relief. It's always fun when Silver King comes into relief in the 16th inning and saves the day.

Yes, the rule was changed because there was abuse in the Daily Set. With the advanced injury rule you could have excellent RPs start and pitch many innings by loading up on SP with long term injuries.
