This has been a season unlike any other. I'd like to know your thoughts ...

During this period, if it potentially helps protect the health and safety of players and staff...sure, why not.

But as a general rule, no, I like 9 inning baseball. For Met fans we call it 8 innings of reasonable baseball followed by that inning where we come up with imaginative ways to lose the game.

Hrmmm...if we NEVER GET to the 9th inning, maybe we Met fans won't fall apart as often. Hmmmm/.

No, despite my musing of avoiding 9th inning disasters, I still like 9 inning baseball. (The Mets would simply find ways to lose in the 7th, anyway!).

This will be made permanent next season. The powers that be want to play less games (shorten the season to 154 games) and shorter games. The idea of playing to win has been replaced over the last 10 seasons or so with the primary goal of protecting investments. The longer players have to be on the field, the more likely they will be injured, thus diminishing the return on the team's enormous investment. I'm not sure there is anyone among the Commissioner's Office or the owners circle who actually love the game of baseball. In a perverse sort of way, I think they view the game itself as an impediment and a threat to their player investment decisions.
