A very interesting dynamic between Sweeney, Radbourn, and what happened to the Providence Grays by the end of 1885.

Read the two Wikis for the players, as well.

A feud between Sweeney and Radbourn with both of them having melt downs during stellar seasons and both ending up leaving the team by the end of the 1884 season. Sweeney mid-season to St. Louis and Radbourn after abusing himself physically in Sweeney's absence never wanting to play for Providence, again, even though they went 84 - 28 - 2.

Combined, the two starting pitchers went 100 - 27 between Providence and the St. Louis Maroons in 1884. Radbourn's historic 59 win season (Sweeney winning 41). Combined 129 games started, 126 complete games, about 1170 innings pitched, and a combined ERA around 1.55. Sweeney was 21 and Radbourn was 29. Neither pitcher was ever the same, again. Providence, a very successful professional team between 1878 and 1884 with only winning seasons, did not field a team after a losing record in 1885.
