There have been a lot of great franchise leagues, the constant is that the Yankees-Dodgers- Giants- Cards etc all get picked early and if you sign up late or get a low randomizer number you are left picking between the Reds and the Pirates.
So this league flips the franchises, I have eliminated the most popular 8 franchises. There are as follows
Yankees-Giants-Dodgers-Braves-Cards-Indians-Cubs-A's-
Player must be carded for your franchise but you can use any card in the set. So Piazza is exclusive to the Mets but you can use a Dodger card for him. If a player is carded to more than one team then he belongs exclusively to the team with the higher salary. For ex Frank Robinson is exclusive to the Orioles but the Orioles can use the Reds card.

This sounds fun but I think would work better if more guys were assigned to teams.

If ya lose out on a player or 2 with these teams, it might be hard to make up.

ie:
Nolan Ryan
Hoyt Wilhelm
Rod Carew
Bobby Grich
Jim Fregosi
David Cone
Bret Saberhagen
Darrell Porter

I can go but that's the first 2 teams on the list (Angels/Royals)

Are there some teams missing? What about the Red Sox for instance

sorry Red Sox should be part of the elite 8 (notorious 9)
But you both made excellent points so a couple of changes
A few teams were a little short so I added the 4 leftover teams to balance them
California will be combined with Colorado
Kansas City will be combined with Florida
Seattle will be combined with Arizona
Texas will be combined with Tampa Bay
Angels-Colorado
Royals-Florida
Brewers
Expos
Twins-Senators
Phillies
Mariners-Arizona
Rangers-Tampa Bay
Blue Jays
Orioles/Browns
Mets
Reds
Tigers
Astros
Pirates
White Sox
Hopefully I didn't miss any more teams

Well, if I just do the math - seems to be one more missing.

You have 20 franchises listed now plus the notorious 9 - that's 29.

There's 30 teams currently. Seems like someone's still missing?

Bingo - San Diego!!!!

Doesn't look to me like they're a viable option to stand alone but there's several franchises that won't have to be selected.

What are the rules about ballpark choices and trades?

any ballpark is fine. trades can only be made if players are carded for both teams. all players on roster at all times must have card for its team.
