No, not Biggio - Yo-Yo gio!

PostSat Oct 14, 2017 1:36 pm

I like a major stud at 2nd, so I never looked at him much. Hal made him my second pick (cruel streak in Hal's sense of humor). Biggio has strengths I had not noticed. There are no gbA's on his card. And since he can't get injured, and he hits well enough (for a 2nd baseman) so that no you do not need to pinch hit for him, plus runs and fields so there is no need to pinch run or for a defensive replacement. he needs no back up. This frees up a roster spot! Our season ended last night and he posted modest numbers. 101 runs, 25, 11 and 14 for extra bases, 91 W + HBP, .259 and .349. It's how he got there that's WEIRD! I have never had a player with such regular and EXTREME offensive patterns:
Games Hits-at bats TB W BA Slug Games Hits-At bats TB W BA Slug
1- 9 (10-30) 18 5 .333 .600 10-18 (3-33) 6 3 .091 .182
19-29 (18-43) 32 2 .419 .744 30-50 (9-75) 14 8 .120 .187
51-76 (31-87) 50 16 .356 .575 77-86 (2-35) 3 3 .057 .086
87-96 (13-33) 21 6 .393 .636 97-105 (5-35) 6 1 .143 .171
106-114 (14-33) 18 2 .424 .545 115-134 (15-80) 22 5 .188 .275
135-152 (26-69) 44 7 .377 .638 153-162 (5-35) 6 2 .143 .171

83 ga (112-295) 183 38 .380 .620 (w 48, L 35) 79 ga (39-293) 57 22 .133 .195 (w 42, L 37)
He was either way too hot or way too cold. He hit rhp almost as well as lhp. He was hot and cold about the same number of at bats vs all teams. Remarkable.

Also note that (see my thread "Since when") SOM apparently does not include HBP in its calculation of OBP. This is a major flaw in their stats reporting.

I was slightly off on two details. His final BA was .257, not .259 and final on base was .353 not .349. His HBP are included in his OB. 151 hits + 60 Walks + 31 HBP = 242. 588 AB + 91 W/HBP + 6 sac flies = 685 PA. 242/685 = .353
Biggio did get a hit in his final AB of the season, hopefully indicating the end of his latest "bad" run and the start of another hot streak as we start playoffs tomorrow!
