DEADBALL League

PostThu Feb 04, 2016 3:10 pm

Hello.

Going through the roster of ATG8 players, I've noticed there are enough players to support a 12-team league of Deadball players (1919 and before), possibly even a 24-team league.

Has this every been done? Has there ever been a dedicated Deadball era league only? Is there any interest for such a thing?

The strat cards take Deadball up to 1920, but Babe Ruth changed the equation there; we could include it if that was necessary to make the draft easier, tho.

Is there a way to set parameters of players for a draft? Or would it need to be done LIVE?

I found a league that started in December 2015 that had some success -- they ultimately went with a $100 cap, but players later said this was a mistake, that $80mm would be better. Here were the rules, which sound good to me:

Rules:
1. Only players from 1871-1920 with a "db" designation next to their team, with the exception of Ruth 20. No Ruth 20. You can use pre 1920 Ruth as a pitcher however.
2. Must use UNIQUE deadball stadium. 1920 or earlier.
3. 80 mil cap
4. No DH
5. Drop default: 5/10/20

Adding 1920 but not Ruth is better than dropping 1920 because it adds to the player pool and also adds four Negro League players, which is another welcome touch.

I'd love to go all the way to 24 teams on this, we could lower the cap to $60mm for that. Maybe at least have the first 4-12 picks made live here, so everybody gets some Hall of Famers and not get screwed over in auto draft.

Any interest?

Yeah that was the league that I started and I'll tell you right now that the player pool is too thin for a 24 team league. It's just about right for a 12 team league. There is a deadball set that was created by LMBombers. It says Strat O Matic but LMBombers is the one who had them create it. On the draft settings page under ATG 8: shuffle decks there is a drop down box with all of the l decks. You have to scroll down quite a bit but the deadball set should look like this:

Shuffle the deck - play with a random, 1,000-card subset of ATG 8. Create a new one here.
User-created shuffles (this list scrolls, and will be periodically cleaned out):
ATG 8, -1920 (created by Strat-O-Matic on Mon, 12/28 at 11:40am ET)

I WOULD DEFINETLY BE INTERESTED.

Thank you, Lanier! I found your league thread from back in December. Sorry I missed that.

Would you say a $80 or $60 salary is better for Deadball Leagues? Or some other original number, like $68, for example?

I think 80 million or less. But again I think the player pool is way too thin for 24 teams. Also I don't think the 4 four Negro Leaguers who are carded for 1920 are in that deadball set. SEE MY PREVIOUS POST. Again I would be interested.

I would be interested also.

Agree an 80M max cap would be best.

Also would be in favor of a two round serpentine draft before the remaining players are chosen by auto draft.

Just my two cents.

Why the two round draft? I'm not against it in principle. Just curious about the thinking behind it.

The serpentine draft is good IMHO because it gives everybody a chance to get a Stud of their choice.

How about: Two rounds, 2nd round you pick player + unique stadium? Be great to have distinctive ballparks throughout. You could even pick your player as you sign up here, then get another pick + stadium on the flip side. But I won't be too presumptuous to pick without concordance from the crew since I'd get first (but then also last & last ballpark and there are only 22).
