What does HAL have against Ted Wilks

12 games into the season and Ben Wade, my most expensive reliever (in a 60 mill league) has pitched to exactly ONE BATTER so far.

Meanwhile my three other relievers have pitching a combined 22 innings. WTF???

HAL knows what he's doing: your other relievers are performing well, whereas Wade has an ERA of infinity.

One bad at bat and HAL banishes him to bullpen hell forever.

I believe that, to some degree, that HAL chooses relief pitchers based on HR chances on the card. Wade has more HR chances on both sides of his card than any of your other relievers, so HAL will not use him if there are other suitable alternatives available.

I'd like to hear if anyone else shares this belief.

The league is very pitcher friendly, so if that were true, then HAL is an idiot.

42 games into the season and my most expensive relievers has pitched to ONE BATTER.

C'mon HAL.

Just curious what bullpen roles and pitching settings are set? I’m sure there’s a way to set them to manipulate him being played more

So, I have taken the approach in ATG 9 to generally NOT play with settings. I try to have a balanced bullpen usually and let HAL decide. And quite often he parses out the innings fairly well, but this example is insanely unfair.

Both of these examples lead me to believe that HAL grabs the longest duration reliever first. Especially in this case, the other three guys are all R3 or better and Wilks is an R2.

Seems to me, all things being equal, with an intelligent AI, HAL would use his most expensive reliever MORE OFTEN, not less often. So I guess that proves HAL is not a rocket scientist.

HAL ... Either give us more control over our bullpen OR get your head out of your a**!!!

Ok that does make it even more interesting… I was assuming the role or the starters settings slow hook fatigue, and even team settings could have been a factor
