Question

PostThu Aug 30, 2012 9:15 am

I'm about to start a new 2011 season and I'm seriously considering dropping my first pick Jose Reyes. Does anyone have experience with this card they can share? Doesnt seem like that great of a card for a .337 hitter. Aybar is sitting out there and his defense intrigues me. I appreciate any help!

It's a very nice card and will perform with time.
Maybe move him in the lineup if he's not hitting yet...

Thanks for the advice. The season hasnt even started yet, Im just wondering if the difference between a 1e16 and a 2e24 is worth more offense...

This is my team: http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/806668

Let me know what you think...

Aybar is nothing special, is similar in price and also doesn't have 600 PA's. Don't see what the fascination is.

Well, it depends on what you are looking for. Reyes is a way better offensive card: much better on base %, many more hits, and is quite good both ways. Aybar is terrible vs. LHP, so you might want to estimate how many lefty starters you are likely to face as that might increase the value of Reyes if you will see a lot of them. Aybar also has quite a few more gb(A) on his card, so that is something to consider in that Reyes can probably bat 1,2 or 3 if you want, but i think Aybar is more a bottom of the order guy or maybe 1st vs. RHP and 8/9 vs. LHP. (But with only 36 on-base chances his good way, he's a rather iffy leadoff guy, really) Both guys have 15 game injury potential, so they need a decent backup. Speed is basically a wash, with a slight edge to Reyes.

How is the rest of your team defense? My opinion: it's a fairly close call, but I'd really have to need a 1 at ss in order to go with Aybar over Reyes.

I've had both of them quite a bit. To me it comes down to the type of team you have. In $100M leagues, I had enough firepower at other positions to where I would take Aybar for his defense and bat him 1st or 2nd vs righties and bat him 9th vs. lefties.
In leagues where you can't really afford a lot firepower at other positions and have limited salary, I would go with Reyes for his offense and still have a decent fielder at SS.

That's just my opinion. I haven't found Aybar to be as bad for his salary as some of the guys have talked over the past few months. His value is in a hitter's part in $100M leagues.

In leagues I have had him, I have gotten noting but superb performamces from Reyes. I had Aybar and he was awful. If I want great "O" and good D I'd take Reyes. If I want great defense, usually take the least expensive "1" range at SS. The rest are way overpriced. There are not many great leadoff or #2 hitters in this set. Reyes, IMO is the best in the set at either one.

Drop Reyes immediately and pick up Aybar.
Oh wait, I am not in that league with you. Reverse that until we are in a league together. And if we ever are I will take that bum Reyes off your hands.

you can with with 2e24 especially with the offense Reyes brings to table.
