pitchers hitting cards/factor

PostFri Jan 19, 2024 12:39 pm

How important is a pitcher's hitting skill/rating ?

Is there any information about how a rating correlates to stats ? (is an 5WL rating = .220 avg hitter, etc. ?)

Is there any place to view the actual pitcher's hitting card (or chart) ?.....sometimes the game results show a 1, 2, or 3 occurring when a pitcher bats, and where is HAL finding those results ? (not on the opposing hurlers cards of course, if not a 4, 5, or 6)

to a further extent, is there any tip or advice about how much a different rating (5WL to 8WL, etc.) makes a difference ?.....all other things being equal in comparing two pitchers, how much more or less would a good GM be willing to sacrifice or invest to increase or accept less of a pitcher's hitting skill ?

sorry, trying to learn, thanks mucho for any feedback

there is a strategy thread on this forum which has a wealth of information... choosing a ballpark is very important imho

Contains the Newbie Advice Thread (https://forum-365.strat-o-matic.com/arc ... 21&t=9842l) which is a great resource containing a lot of useful information and has this post about defense.

I assume the pitcher hitting results are direct from the Pitchers' Hitting Cards in the tabletop game: these are rated 1-8 and are inserted onto the bottom of the lineup stack and bat instead of the pitchers' pitching card. (must remember to change them when a new pitcher enters the game)

a 1, the worst, provides a WALK on a 2-10 and that is all.
a 2 has SINGLE 2-3, SINGLE 2-4 SINGLE**, SINGLE** 2-5 (1-6 or LO 2B)
a 3 has DOUBLE** 1-8 (1-4 or SINGLE** 5-20), SINGLE 1-9, SINGLE 1-10, SINGLE ** 1-11 (1-6 or LO 2B), WALK 3-10
a 4 has DOUBLE** 1-2 (1-9 or SINGLE** 10-20), DOUBLE** 1-3 (1-17 or SINGLE** 18-20), SINGLE 1-4, SINGLE 1-5,
...SINGLE* 3-8 (1-16 or lo ss 17-20), SINGLE** 3-9, WALK 3-10, SINGLE 3-11, SINGLE 3-12

WHEW

a 5 has two DOUBLES and two WALKS on the 3 column, and everything else on the 3 is a SINGLE (altho 1-10 is (1-17 or out)
a 6 has WALK 1-8, SINGLE* 1-9 (1-6 or lo 3B), SINGLE 2-10, HOMERUN 1-11 (1-16 OR fly lf-b), HOMERUN 1-12
a 7 has HOMERUN 2-2, HOMERUN 2-3 (1-16 or DOUBLE), DOUBLE 2-4 (1-10 or SINGLE**), SINGLE 2-5, SINGLE** 2-6,
...SINGLE 29 (1-18 or lo ss), WALK 2-12, WALK 3-11, WALK 3-12
an 8 has HOMERUN 2-2, HOMERUN 2-3 (1-16 or DOUBLE), DOUBLE 2-4, SINGLE 2-5, SINGLE** 2-6, SINGLE** 2-7,
...SINGLE 2-8, WALK 2-9, and SINGLE 3-10 (3-10)

woa: something I never noticed: the 1 and 2 cards are power W (without power), the others are N (normal power)

it was fun revisiting these again. they're probably the same as 365.

On power, I think that each pitcher gets a W/N in his stats, it's NOT hitting card dependent. At least in the advanced game.

Code: Select all
Card   ob   ave   slug   OPS
1   .028   .000   .000   .028
2   .085   .059   .059   .144
3   .144   .120   .130   .274
4   .222   .200   .225   .447
5   .338   .313   .342   .680
6   .100   .065   .135   .235
7   .264   .237   .330   .594
8   .306   .279   .386   .692
