These 2021i , 2021a and 2021 Daily sets all have about 9 shortstops who are a SS-1. And there are over a 12 SS who are a SS-2.

I think today's MLB SS are much better than 40-50 years ago, but some of it has to be how SOM assigns these range ratings...

For the entire decade of the 1960s there was a handful of SS who ever got a SS-1, and only a few more who got SS-2. Even in the 70s,80s, and 90s there were only a handful of SS who received a SS-1.

What do you guys think? I do think today's SS are better than in the past, but how much better?

AS far as I remember there were no 1 SS rated for Strat in 65,66,67,68,69, and 70--there were three in 64-- Aparicio, and two on Philadelphia--Wine and Amaro--then in 71 there were three 1 SS.

In 1970 there were no 1 SS or 2B

I think they are better defensively now--but the well kept fields are much-much better than 30-60 years ago--the balls take true hops for the most part--you could get taken out by a bad hop in the 60s--Atlanta had a horribly kept field until the 90s--and a football team playing on it too.
