"365" simulation TRAVESTY!!

PostFri Apr 03, 2020 12:58 pm

Thought this would be nice to try and would help ease my "baseball jones."
But -- NOOOOO!!

After about 5 days fiddling with salary spreadsheet, finally completed a squad.
It immediately jumped into a League with five BOTS (no problem -- they look random so maybe my carefully selected team goes 18/3 or 17/4 or something like that)
HOWEVER...

1) In very first at-bat my LF, with "1" for injury, gets HBP and out for THREE (???) games!!
2) In second game my 1909 Ty Cobb, at 9.36 million and with hitter preferences set for do NOT pinch hit for facing either LHP or RHP, gets PH for by 1909 Claude Rossman (540K) in the bottom of the 7th with a slim 3-2 lead. WHAT??? This along with several other inexplicable moves which ended up resulting in TWO pitchers pinch hitting later in the game... https://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/playbyplay/445019/5
3) Game three = explain these...
bottom 7th trailing 6-5 = 1990 Mike Gallego (550K primary pos. 2B) bats for 1979 Dave Parker (6.12 million)
same inning = 1929 Clyde Beck (500K primary pos. 3B) bats for 1960 Luis Aparicio (4.71 million)
and to top it off...
bottom 8th = Rossman hits for Cobb AGAIN!!

If this is somehow supposed to inspire me to spend some cash on more teams here -- WRONG!!
Used to play with a 1951 card set and would have enjoyed this if it weren't so GLITCH filled.
No way it happens now. Sorry, you coulda had a customer SOM

CORRECTION:
That was 1912 (not '09) Ty Cobb at 9.99 million.
(which I suppose makes it even worse)

The play-by-play says Rossman is a platoon ph for Cobb, so that explains that result.

I figured it was something like that. Just another case of someone not reading ALL of the rules before beginning play.

It was your fault for setting a PLATOON PINCH HITTER for Ty Cobb on your lineups lists.

what the heck is a "platoon pinch hitter??"
and -- I did NO such thing...
as I stated; set Cobb for do NOT pinch for (vs. either L or R)

Perhaps, with the 21 game trial league, platoon hitters are introduced automatically by the game engine in order to demonstrate the features? Rest assured, if you sign up for a regular 162-game league, you will have control over the use of platoon hitters. See game rules under the info/help tab about the platoon feature, in which you can set your lineup to bring in a substitute to pinch hit in order to take advantage of certain pitching changes.

thx Paul...

Yeah, read that rule but dug around everywhere I could think of in Hitter settings and found nothing about platoon PH.

They ain't going to con me out of money because "gee whiz I can control my players better if I pay."
Sorry SOM -- it's been real -- it's been fun -- but it hasn't been... REAL FUN

(let's see if all this beyotching results in the Wunderkids sweeping tonight's series)

Well, it is unfortunate if the free trial league doesn't play like the "for pay" league with regard to platooning. I hope you'll give it a try, anyway, cuz it really is a fun game and nobody wants to get Ty Cobb mad when the real season starts.

RotationsGeek,

Hang in there. Strat-O-Matic online is a great game, especially in these shut-in times.

"Platoon Pinch Hitter" is not a setting in Hitter Preferences; it's actually in setting your lineup. Take a look at your all of the lineups you've set, and see if Rossman is listed as a Platoon PH there. Let us know.
