Need help

PostTue Mar 24, 2020 9:22 am

Is it just me or has HAL been awful when deciding on bullpen moves.

He just f*ucked up an entire 3 game series for me.

Here is a link to my team. https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1545453

He's putting in my .50 starter/relievers before my designated middlemen, setup guys, and closers.

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

what I learned is that it is more challenging than I expected to be a casual user of this game. what you may want to examine is how your queue looks in pitcher preferences. move the mop up category down and the closer category and set up/middle man categories up. some guys who are on this discussion are very helpful and some seem to be happy belittling people that don't do this for a living. I guess they just want to play with themselves...

biggest problem I see here is the lack of a true closer (C3 or better). This is forcing HAL to save Walden for save situations.
My first 2019 team started last night, and HAL fell in love with McKay in relief (should be lefty specialist). I only had two rolls defined. Stephenson as mid and setup. I added more roles for tonights games, will report back when I see how that works.

I was going to recommend setting your *SPs to F4 or F2, but you’re already getting long starts out of your starters. My first thought is always to get the innings to the important guys. It looks like that is already happening.

Your relievers have only seen 20 or 30 batters apiece so far. That’s a really small sample to draw large conclusions from. Plus, you’re just coming out of a series with a Citizens banger team that rang up 24 runs against you, not to mention the 11 inning third game.

Maybe all you really need here is some patience to see how it continues to unfold, as your luck could change.

As an aside, pitching doesn’t seem to be the issue with this team called “Not Enough Hitting!”

True, I was just thinking maybe that is one reasong why his best pitchers aren't being put in the mid/setup roles

This is actually interesting because it shows the effect of the changes in the game. Because you only get two roles you tend to put those for when you are in the lead. Well, Hal tends (I guess) to focus on conserving your pitchers for those situations unless you specify otherwise. And now you cannot specify otherwise (or at least having difficulty). So what happens once you get behind is that Hal throws in these bad relief pitchers and your team implodes.

Game 22

Familia 7th Inn 1 run behind
Sparkman 8th Inn 5 runs behind
Banuelos 8th Inn 6 runs behind

Game 23

Familia 6th 5 runs behind
Ramirez 7th 6 runs behind

Game 24

Florio tied right-handed specialist
Sparkman 11 Tied

First, I believe you only had one appearance the whole series where the role was specified. Secondly, the questionable decisions by Hal were Familia in Game 22 in the 7th with a one-run deficit and Florio and Sparkman with the game tied in extra innings in game 24. I think you can assume that Hal will use your best pitchers when you are in the lead and crummy pitchers when you're not. Maybe in extra innings it wants longer guys to go? I don't know what logic routines Hal uses for extra innings but overall I m am having to think about this myself, because I have seen my teams blow up, too.

Solutions. I would put Walden at Middle Man and Behind and Late. And F8. And Gott at Set-up and Tied Late. And F8. Then I would replace Florio with . 5 guy to get you extra money. Take that money and replace Noel Ramirez with a legitimate closer, a C3 at least. Not going to get a great guy at 2.5 million but decent. That guy you put at clsoer and and Tied extra innings. Get rid of any left or right specialties. I don't trust Hal to handle those properly. Just use the designations listed above and you should be mostly covered, though if someone gets tired there still might be issues but at least when they're not you have covered all of the situations where Hal can screw up. And remember your starters are almost average 7.5 innings a game, so you only got 1.5 innings for your relief to cover. Good Luck!

My pen worked much more to my liking in the second series of the season. I set it up like this:

Your Current Bullpen Roles

Closer Diego Castillo
Setup Robert Stephenson
LH Specialist Osich
RH Specialist Matt Magill
LH Specialist B McKay
Setup Austin Adams
Middle Man Stephenson
Middle Man Austin Adams

Set Castillo at do not use before 8th
set Osich and McKay as quick hook avoid Righties
Magill avoid lefties
Stephenson slow hook

J-Pav are you serious about leaving your SPs until they reach F2?
