The drawback to "pick as you sign up" is that the last few spots can be hard to fill. The randomizer at least gives everyone a chance to get a high pick, no matter when they signed up.

As far as trades, there should be enough from your two franchises and two FA picks to fill our your roster nicely. No one will have a perfect roster (either because of the salary cap or the need to use a player at a secondary position), but that's part of the fun.

The 110 cap seems low when all available players are used almost each team will be above the cap- the 110 would seem to penalize teams that are set for good years- just a thought

Most of the two-team theme leagues that I've been in used 110 and it wasn't as bad as you'd think. You may need to sacrifice a little but all teams would generally be in that boat. I think the only upside to a higher salary cap would be for the high value franchises (the top 3 or 4 teams in that card set). I think anything above 115 would start to skew that way, so that would be a slight increase but nothing earth-shattering.

Distinct disadvantage to the late signers as The Godfather said. I think we need to decide ahead of time.

Question when we move to 2018, if I had selected the Cubs would I keep the rights to Arrieta or does he now belong to the Phillies owner?

Good question! He would belong to the Phillies. You keep the rights to that franchise but the roster (and total franchise value) will change with each card set.

The franchise value is an important consideration as well. Remember, that determines your draft position in future card sets. If your team tanks in real life, at least you'll have good draft position for your second franchise when the new card set comes out. It can take the sting out of a bad season and/or picking your favorite/hometown team (f they're not a powerhouse).
