HAHAHA, maybe I should change my own strategy.

Though my pitcher park teams tend to do well % wise (average .540 winning %), none have won a title (a couple won 1 credit).

I've won my titles twice in Petco..... I guess I need to go there more, since I've only gone there twice and won twice. I should look at my own teams more often

gbrookes is way wiser than me as are all of the above. So I suspect that there is a reason that the parks I mentioned were not mentioned by others and was hoping to get a why. I figure at some point I should learn something here. ...better late than never

The team that just finished, the O.co team, was the most fun (don't hate me for using McCutchen, it was before I knew better!)

In my opinion, the key to winning in a pitcher's park, in a word is...

Pitching.

The advice here in this thread, esp Commissioner Brooke's, is so sound it's alarming. I hesitate to even add anything, so I am merely showing you what I did rather than try and re-explain what the others have already generously contributed.

Lots of good advice here! :D

MBW,

Pick your players first, then give them the best ballpark fit.

It's a bit of a semantics game, but I personally do not pick the ballpark, then try to assemble a team for it. Rather, I create a theory (for instance, "I'm going to win with high slugging in a pitchers park"). I do my stats research, build a team, and assess my chances of getting the majority of the guys I want. If they all happen to be lefty, then I'll go with AT&T. If it's more even, I go PNC. If I'm going with a batting average or BABIP theory, I might prefer Nationals.

Anyway, that's my 0.02.

Thanks, Jeff! I may do what you said: pick the players and then the park. Thanks for all the links.

I much prefer singles parks myself, Royals is perfect, or if you don't plan on using ANY homerun hitters go with Forbes '57.

With a singles' park you can really take advantage of your high on base guys and their speed. You aren't reliant on homeruns but you can still score by stringing a couple of hits together.

Balance is very important. One guy will say you need pitching, another will say fielding and speed but what I have found is OBP and balance are most important. Meaning you don't have to pay for that 1 at SS but you should have a 2 at the most important positions like SS,2B and CF. It is also probably a good idea to have a catcher with at least a -1 arm in a singles park.

With a singles park you can put together a great pitching staff without spending half your money on pitching. Starting pitchers that need four days rest instead of three often are better values and always much less sought after... You can pickup middle of the road starting pitchers who may give up a ballpark homerun or two but it won't matter because your stadium will keep the balls from flying out.

A big advantage of a singles park is that a lot of mangers love the long ball and when they come to your park their ballpark homruns will fall short.

Good luck, try to post a link to your team if you feel up to it and keep us posted. Cheers!

Knowing how to setup your bullpen and get the most out of the guys who cost the most is also very important. If you are spending 3,4 or 5 million on a relief pitcher and he only comes in to close games, you are wasting money. Your most expensive relief pitcher should be the one with the most innings pitched and vice versus on your least expensive relief pitcher.

Here are both of my 2014 teams:

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1399520

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1402270

Both teams went to the finals. The Mystery Game is the most exciting and my favorite but I always play at least a couple seasons of the newest set of cards.

Notice how I don't use any players who cost the minimum (.5 million). And with the second team I was able to use a 27 man roster at an 80 million dollar cap, I would not advise this for beginners.

good stuff radagast. what jumped out most at me was your deep use of platoons. I am anxious to dig into next years set and start building this kind of team.
