Where's Valen?!

Here's an experiment that FINALLY worked!!

Groundball/Flyball team:

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1413024

1906 fly balls minus 1892 grounders for the hitters (+14 net fly balls). On the pitching side, 162 double plays for, minus 104 dp's against, for a net positive +58.

As an added bonus, after all the player selections I was able to afford Trout in center, so this is the only Trout ring I've seen in any league I've participated in. I wish I could say I had set out to prove my own insights wrong ahead of time, but unfortunately it's just that this team started two and a half months ago, well before my first post here.

If it helps, our $12 mil boy carded .188/.278/.396 in the postseason. At least they were mostly fly balls!

We had a pretty good Beane Count too, 738 minus 526 for +218 walks and homers.

The obvious flaw in the GB/FB strategy is that they can't hit and they can't get on base. But when they do hit, it's usually a BIG hit. The high SLG just barely overcame the weak AVG and OBP. Not running into outs, driving in the runners on third with sac flies, and a few extra strikeouts on the pitching side all probably helped.

Very interesting (and different). Proving once again that there are so many different ways to win at this game!

J-Pav, One of your experiments that interested me in past seasons was where you completely forego the autodraft and frenzy, relying on "leftovers" out of which you try to sculpt an entire team that can be competitive.

What amazed me about those teams in the past is that you were almost always able to come up with excellent-performing teams.

Have you been able to try that experiment with the 2014 set? It sounds as though this set may offer a bit more of a challenge (but maybe not...).

I can give it a go. I'll post it after the autodraft...

Doesn't matter to me... if you want, you can use a randomizer 1-30 like I do - lol. I have faith that you can make it work; just try not to end up in my division again!

I'll pick Sunday evening after 7pm or so (a couple of hours after waivers run). I shied away from the banger parks, but there was no need to. Plenty of player options for all types of parks available in the pool...
