To: Mr. Palmtana, Custodian of Records

Would you be able to locate the old thread "What Is Your Dream Team?" (I believe coffeeholic was the original poster, but I might be wrong). This might go back to '03 or '04 (Christmastime?) and be from the boards before the other boards.

Do those boards even exist anymore?

Thx! :D

Unfortunately not J-Pav. All that is left from the original boards is what luckyman salvaged in the Newbie Advice thread.

The Secret Formula was started as a result of that Dream Team post back around 2003. It was a snowy day during Christmas vacation. Guys were posting their perfect teams. If you could have any player you wanted, what would your roster look like?

Luckyman posted his perfect team and the next day I went out and drafted it. I got like 23 of 24 of his guys, something most of us thought would be impossible. Here's the team here:

No '03 team was complete without Doug Glanville or Tim Spooneybarger! Lucky was so mad when I went down in the Finals. He thought it was a team that simply could not be beat. Oh, for the wooly days of scoring 1100 runs!

Anyway, those great conversations about what constituted the perfect team led me to take a shot at trying to crack the code the next season.

Here's the first Secret Formula team ('04 season): http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1043961

273 net runs. Team started 50-14. Crazy stuff. Hard to believe that was ten years ago already.

As an aside, my monster Luckyman tribute team played in Coors, but lost in the Finals to a Safeco team. As Steve Stone would say, "A lesson for all you young players out there..."

Thx Jeep! Those are the "old boards", but I was looking for the "really old boards" (pre-2005). There was something about "beta" involved, I think. I figured Palmtana had cut and pasted every post before the boards went into the ether and had them sorted alphabetically by author and topic. :o

J-Pav, I thought I'd give it a better try. By better, I mean that I used your basic outline earlier in the year to draft my 2nd and 3rd teams, but then changed up radically after waivers. This time I tried to stay closer to the intent of the outline, with one "major deviation" Here is the team

SP $6.60 $6.29 $6.58 RA Dickey
SP $4.69 $4.53 $5.73 Jake Peavy
SP $3.99 $3.53 $4.27 Hiroki Kuroda
SP $2.45 $2.33 $2.63 Trevor Cahill
SP $1.43 $1.47
SP $0.98 $0.58 $0.50 Brian Matusz

RP $4.62 $3.86 $4.50 Scott Atchison
RP $2.28 $2.14 $1.52 Brayan Villarreal
RP $1.19 $1.34 $1.05 Greg Holland
RP $0.88 $0.97 $0.85 Brandon League
RP $0.70 $0.73 $0.50 Mike Gonzalez
RP $0.50 $0.71 XX

BA $9.20 $9.59 $10.08 Miggy Cabrera
BA $7.52 $8.04 $7.59 Adam Jones
BA $6.75 $6.91 $6.98 Andre Ethier
BA $5.49 $5.78 $5.58 Jose Reyes
BA $4.30 $5.00 $5.88 Matt Holliday (this spot was Konerko but I couldn't resist getting Holliday)
BA $3.86 $3.79 $4.18 Josh Willingham
BA $3.29 $2.95 $3.08 Ryan Doumit (this spot would have been Kubel wth Doumit moving down one before Holliday)
BA $2.79 $2.44 $2,61 Brian LaHair
BA $1.99 $1.99 $1.62 Omar Infante
BA $1.54 $1.63 $1.15 John Mayberry jr.
BA $1.29 $1.29 $0,84 Yorvit Torrealba
BA $1.00 $1.02 $0.77 Shelley Duncan
BA $0.78 $0.73 $0.61 Tyler Greene
BA $0.63 $0.63 $0.54 Elliot Johnson

Holliday became too much to resist when looking at lineups, vs righties Reyes and Ethier 1-2 with Miggy cleanup. Holliday between Ethier and Miggy will punish any LOOGY that tries to get past one batter. Willingham will hit 5th

Steve,

That looks like a pretty decent team to me. What park are you in and can you post a link?

thanks. I'm using Comerica. As it turned out, I'm by far the pitching park in this league. Not my cup of tea but it should be interesting
