Saavy Managing or Bad Sportsmanship?

PostMon Feb 25, 2013 8:05 am

Taking the pulse of the community on this one (keeping it nameless, the purpose of this question is to get opinion from the community and not call out anyone specifically)

At the 3/4 point in the season, a manager who is leading his division makes a request to the last place teams that have no chance in making the playoffs, for a trade (any trade) to help improve his team.

This isn't a transaction I would consider. I could be in the minority on this, what are your thoughts?

Poor sportsmanship is the way it appears, although, with the CAP, the deal has to be somewhat even. I think we would need a few more particulars before setting my vote in stone.

In this specific instance it is Mystery Card.

I can see this just be a case of poor taste, poor choice of words...

Instead of just sending a trade offer to the bottom dwellars... he asked.

poor form pan, poor form.

Not sure I agree it's bad sportsmanship.

In a keeper league, I'd say this is pro-forma, and skews to what happens in real life.

And frankly, I don't see any harm in it in an open league. Though, I don't recall too many trades happening between bottom dwellers and top teams in open leagues, and I don't play mystery card (which could make a difference). Did that owner get a lot of offers that were unbalanced trades? What's the incentive for a lesser team to help the leading team?

In this case it is not a keeper league.

IMO,

If the deals are somewhat evenly balanced, I have no problem with it.

ie. If the better team needs more hitting vs. RH's and offers a player in a good year vs. LH's.
Or visa versa. Same goes for pitching.

If they are really unbalanced trades, then you also have to question the manager of the lesser team for making the transaction.
