Pass Rush

PostThu Sep 21, 2017 12:37 pm

With the games resuming tonight, I put down my tiki torch and pitchfork for a few minutes.

For those of you with a lot of SOM board game and computer experience, is it better to have one or two lineman with a 10-12 pass rush rating (and the rest low rated) or is it preferable to have four seven-rated linemen?

Does the total rating of the D-liine come into play?

Thanks.

Total rating does not come into play. You want as many high rated players as possible as it's totally random which pass rusher is checked on any given play. You can have two ends that are 12+ rated but the roll indicates it's your run stuffing defensive tackle who is only a 3.
As to which is preferable in your above example, it depends on your opponent. if his offensive line is a sieve, it's probably better to have the four 7's across the board, but if he's weak in the middle and has strong Offensive tackles, you may want the two ends at 10+. But again, the dice determine who's rating is used, and they are very very fickle. ;)

Another question relatively in relation with the former one.

My Defensive line has for Pass Rush:
LT 6
LE 12
RE 6
RT,End 1

If I play a 3-4 Formation, what will be three starters?
Will the LT play NT or it can be my RT?
Or,...?

Thanks

And, for my LB squad, I have for Pass Rush:

RILB 4
ROLB 7
LILB 5
LOLB 6

If I play 4-3 who will selected as MLB?

First things first, please note if your team is by default a 4-3 team, if you switch to a 3-4 you can only call Pass and all split rolls that require checks of defenders on running plays default to the higher yardage.

I understand what you are trying to do, as your RILB is better than your RT and you think that you are fielding the better rated players if you go 3-4. If this is the board game, you can do it any way you chose, bench the RT for the 3-4 and bench the RILB for the 4-3. Not having played to CD-ROn or online version, I have no idea how HAL handles these substitutions or if they are even allowed.

Thanks for your reply.

Not sure if I understand well this: "if you switch to a 3-4 you can only call Pass and all split rolls that require checks of defenders on running plays default to the higher yardage." (French native ;) ).

Anyway, I will try different things during next games.

In ATG I Recommend you use one of the 4-3 defenses...
Then play around with the four options on the bottom...

Play call tendency. (Call pass more or call run more)

Blitz lbs more or less.

Double team more or less.

Key rbs more or less.

This is what I have been experimenting with. No real opinions formed yet.
But I'm messing around here with different combinations looking for the edge.

In other posts we have been asking for more options.
To me...all the control options are on offense. More control there. Down and distance.
Who plays when. What package. Etc. All offense stuff.

I am very satisfied with all the things I can do with the defense settings.
I just wish we were playing one half a game a night so we could make halftime strategy changes based on score and game stats at halftime.
