1922 Ray Grimes, CHC, Bats-R, E Balance, 1b-4e21, 15 Game INJ Risk
LH--11.3 2b, 3 3b, 3.8 HR, 18 BB 441/539/761, 1.301 OPS
RH--10.8 HR, 3 3b, 3.6 HR, 18 BB 429/529/739, 1.268 OPS
Grimes had only two seasons as a starter.

While I truly appreciate the work you've done to apprise us of the stats, Andy, the comments attached are slightly less appreciated. I know that they are your opinions (statements of fact in this case, but a bit cherry-picked), but you know that your opinion holds a certain weight around here; perhaps they would be better if they weren't directly under the stats. Certainly Grimes was a two-year starter, but that was due to a particularly badly discolated back (I didn't even know you could dislocate your back) and an operation. This guy could flat-out hit as witnessed by a lifetime (granted not a very long career) 133 ops+. For me, Grimes is one of those "imagine what could have been" cases. In 1922, he finished second behind Rogers Hornsby in 2B, BA, OBP & SLG (and thus OPS). He had 596 plate appearances, so he's not a Gates Brown case. He's getting my vote.

Andy it's clear you don't write obituaries for a living, or you'd omit the best years of a person's life as non-representative! We are remembered for our best and worst moments. The highest rookie batting average in the history of NL baseball deserves a card, IMO (George Watkins).

Thanks, Andy. Please don't take my remarks badly, they certainly weren't meant to be hurtful. I -- and the whole community -- really, really, really appreciate what you do and what you mean to us here. By no means should you censor yourself about what you think about the nominations: you of all people have the right to air what you think. It was just the proximity to the numbers that struck me as slightly problematic. Maybe we should open a "What do you think about the nominations?" thread...

Thanks again, Andy. The numbers are extremely helpful!

I didn't see these comments-

the numbers are extremely helpful-
I also found helpful previous comments on other threads making comparisons to current card selections-
not about players careers so much-
but what we are actually getting in regards to how a card fits in the set fwiw.
