D-Backs Team Vote

PostTue Mar 12, 2019 10:00 pm

There are six D-Back teams that made the post-season, led by the 2001 World Series Champions.

Please choose one.

Thanks,

Just using the 2001 D-Backs. If this is the chosen team there are 3 players already a part of ATG. Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling and Luis Gonzalez. Below are a list of players that would make nice additions to the D-Backs.

Eric Byrnes (2007)

Justin Upton (2009 or 2011)

Ian Kennedy (2011)

AJ Pollock (2015)

Brad Ziegler (2015)

Good thoughts Frank. No matter what team is voted in we will probably have an opportunity to vote in extras.

My votes

2010 Daniel Hudson 80 innings, .84 whip. Gives D-Backs a real closer. No card (he also pitched for White Sox that year, so I'm thinking he has this NL card for DBacks).

2005 Tony Clark 393 PAs, but look at this line 304/.366/.636/1.003 OPS+154 Union president. No card.

Thanks for the suggestions. Based on what Arizona already has in starting pitching, I think the 3* available spots should go to at least a couple of position players and possibly another reliever.

Justin Upton seems like a good choice for one of those spots.

*If 2001 wins the vote.

I think there will be opportunities to add to any team that is voted in. It depends on what minimums we want to set. For example, the 1999 DBacks have 12 hitters with over 180 plate appearances, and 8 pitchers over 60 innings. That would give five open slots, using that eligibility bar.

Wouldn't that defeat the objective to add more useful cheap bench cards to the deck?

It's a two edged sword SteveF. For example, in 1999 Greg Colbrunn had a 911 OPS in only 153 PA. Dave Delucci had a 968 OPS in only 123 PA. It wouldn't bother me to add them, but they probably wouldn't be really cheap, and some here really object to those kinds of adds. In other words, you can't win no matter what you do. But we have flexibility

I prefer 2001 because the backups are better and it's their world series team. I don't really see why 1999 is getting votes other than the fact that people can see the cards already.

I'm working on posting card stats for the 1999 and 2001 D-Backs, hopefully making a more informed decision. If you'd like, hold off on voting til you see the numbers.
