Jim Rice 1979 Card

PostSat Feb 23, 2019 10:25 pm

Many have said that we don't know what we are getting when we nominate cards, so I've taken some time to put some stats together from some cards, using Diamond Dope and Veterans 1975 for the park, since it's kind of neutral (10,10,10,10). I asked Bill for his permission/blessing to do this. So I'll be posting some card add ideas, thoughts, etc to hopefully keep interest up and give folks some stuff to actually discuss on the boards.

Jim Rice was an offensive force in the 70s and 80s. Wondering if another card would make him a stronger option.

Here are his top 2 cards in ATG:

1978 Rice, 6.38m, Bats R, 2R Balance, lf-3(0)e4, rf-3e4, cf-4e4
LH--1.8 2b, 5.3 3b, 8.5 HR, 8 BB 324/387/711, 1.098 OPS
RH--2.9 2b, 3.6 3b, 11.25 HR, 6 BB 368/414/806, 1.220 OPS
Bulletproof, MVP Season, Led League in HR, RBI, Hits, SLG, OPS, and Total Bases

1977 Rice, 4.63m, Bats R, 1R Balance, rf-3(0)e15, lf-3e15
LH--0.3 2b, 1.8 3b, 3.4 HR, 14 BB 425/516/580, 1.096 OPS
RH--5.7 2b, 4.1 3b, 9.7 HR, 2 BB 326/357/743, 1.100 OPS
Led league in HR and Total Bases

Here's his 1979 card, which is actually more powerful than the 77 & 78 cards.
This was the season he and Fred Lynn made an awesome 1-2 punch.
1979 Jim Rice, Bats R, 2L Balance, lf-4(0)e5, rf-4(0)e5
LH--3.5 2b, 1.7 3b, 14.7 HR, 13 BB 371/452/912, 1.365 OPS
RH--8.3 2b, 0.9 3b, 8.3 HR, 8 BB 372/424/723, 1.147 OPS
Best of the 3 vs LHP by far. Better than 77 vs RHP, and closer than I first thought vs RHP compared to 1978.
Different than his other 2 cards with the 2L Balance...…..
