Anybody know the story on Mike Jorgensen? His 1974 season was great, but he didn't have very many plate appearances, even though he played in 131 games. He was an excellent first baseman and didn't have a platoon split; in fact, the two years before he hit lefties better than righties and was an E in '74.

Just seems like a strange way to use a guy who was putting together such a good offensive year. Of course, Gene Mauch was the manager and he had a reputation for doing things his own way.

That team had Ron Fairly and Hal Breeden at 1b as well. Jorgey would often come in late as a defensive replacement, which padded his games played.
