18.2 upgrade poll

***Mistake alert! Larry Parrish 1979 card has already been voted in and was included in this poll by mistake. Please avoid voting for him. Thank you and my apologies.***

Ok let's vote on 18.2...aka 18.1.2. Voting is open for 1 week, until Thursday, April 26th @ 5pm PST.

I've already submitted...
Dave Righetti 1981 NYY SP
Rick Wise 1971 PHI SP
Benito Santiago 1987 SD C
Mike LaValliere 1987 PIT C
Larry Parrish 1979 MON 3B

So that leaves us with 20 spots. 10 upgraded cards and 10 cards from guys that have zero in the set. This was a tough grouping to whittle down, so many deserving players. So right up front, many worthy players were left off.

Each list of 50 contains 25 pitchers/25 batters. BUT you will be voting on each grouping (Upgrades/Zero) in whole. So there's potential for 2 pitchers and 8 batters to come out of one of the groupings.

Some of the parameters I used to get to these 50 upgraded and 50 zero carded nominations.
*I used years in their career as my top filter
*For the upgraded list I also compared their current ATG cards with the nominated cards. If those cards weren't available in one of the other sets I used the Card Viewer to make the comparisons.
*I eliminated all current players for this voting round as I had to do something to help get to the 50 per poll
*If the card was up for a recent vote and didn't do all that great I weighed that as well and mostly eliminated them for this vote

In the polls you will notice a bunch of data per nominee, the keys are below...
The data headers for pitchers
Last / First / Year / Franchise / Position / Cards currently in ATG / $$ Cards in ATG / Years in Career / WHIP / W-L / SVS / ERA / INN / SO / H per9 / HR per9 / SO per9 / BAL

The data headers for batters
Last / First / Year / Franchise / Position / Cards currently in ATG / $$ Cards in ATG / Years in Career / AVE / OBP / SLG / OPS / OPS+ / AB+BB / SB / 2B / 3B / HR / RBI / BAL

MORE INFO:
If you really want to dive in I also created a google docs that contains all the available links to the cards AND for those nominees that didn't have a card somewhere in SOM, I transcribed the data from Card Viewer...hopefully painting enough of a picture to put them on an even playing field with the cards everyone can see. The data in those cells reads like this...
BB / 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / BP4 for each side. There is also a total for both OBP chances and Total bases. BPHR are NOT included. Figured you guys could do some math if you really wanted to.

Please note there 2 tabs, one for each grouping. Usability hint; take the zoom level down to 75%.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

As always there is a high likelihood I messed something up. Feel free to post any corrections and I'll go in a change it if I can. Also post any additional player information you see fit, lobbying is legal.
NOW VOTE!

I found that if I put 4 or 5 marbles in my mouth when I talk, I sound almost exactly like Jerry Remy.

Rosie: You've got 1979 Larry Parrish in this poll and he's already been elected and submitted in 18.1 and a half! Perhaps you can replace him on the ballot with another player. How about 1926 Johnny Mostil, who has just one card and would be a good top of the batting order smallball option in CF:

1926 Johnny Mostil, CF, White Sox .328 4 41 .415 .467 .882, 41 DO, 15 TR, 2nd in AL MVP voting. Led AL in HBP (10) & SBs (35) for the second straight year; Career highs in HITS, BA, DO, OBP & OPS. Led AL in CFer PO. From 1921-1926, the fleet footed Mostil was arguably the best defensive center fielder of his era, and legend has it that he is the only center fielder in major league history to catch a foul ball for a put out! The diminutive Mostil had a 10 year career with the White Sox, plagued by injuries and mental illness, but emerged as a star in 1926. Mostil has just 1 card (1923), which represents his WORST offensive season during the period 1921-1926, with his lowest BA and OPS in that span. Any of his other 5 seasons during that time would have been better, but 1926 was his best.

Mostil's bio can be viewed at the link below:

If you decide to replace Parrish with another third baseman, these players are worthy of an upgraded card:

1980 Buddy Bell, Texas .329 17 83 .379 .498 .877 Gold Glove. Career highs in BA, SLG, OPS & OPS+. 2nd career high in OBP.

1991 Terry Pendleton, Braves .319 22 86 .363 .517.880 NL MVP Led league in BA, HITS & TB. Switch hitter. Career highs in BA, HR, SLG, OBP, OPS & OPS+. 2nd career high in RUNS, HITS & DO. 2e27

Thanks for the catch. As I posted in the other poll, there's no way to edit the polls without resetting the results...so we just go with what we have. I'll post a warning about Parrish.
