Re: 17.2 FINAL POLL - top 25 get in

PostTue May 09, 2017 1:19 pm

I don't get it.

We don't have enough Yankees.....NOT!

Ryne Duren is one of the TOP vote getters and his 1958 doesn't even compare to Jeff Russel. Russel would be a card that would be in the $4.5M ish range and be used in 25% of all leagues regardless of cap!

Duren will be another card in the 3.0M ish range and RARELY be used after 2 months of NEWNESS.

Why the community votes to add new worthless cards (especially Yankees) when the Rangers can use all of the help they can get.

While I actually agree with you-- find a number of things we voted on perplexing-- this only being one of them.
i.e. one example of many and no offense hes fine sort of, but Flaciddo Polanco-- another 5 or 6 mill 2b singles hitter-- who is a 2 in field, we've got tons of those who are better already.

Although I'm a Yankee fan, I do have trouble understanding all the votes for Duren. Maybe the image of the fireballing wild-man with coke-bottle glasses has enduring appeal. Anyway, I didn't vote for him.

However, I did vote for Polanco, and I think there's a good case to be made for him. For one thing, although he's a defensive 2, he has zero errors, and that makes him sort unique. His defensive value is about equivalent to a 1e18. Also, he's a 16 year veteran with no card. And he's a RH hitter who hits RHP. 2B's who hit RHP are in short supply.

So, as a unique (no errors at 2B) 16 year veteran with no card, and the ability to hit RHP from 2B, I think Polanco merited my vote. We all get to vote, even if others have different criteria and might disagree with those votes are distributed. If some folks what to vote for Duren, that's their privilege.

People here don't know what they want. McAuliffe would have added good lefty power at short stop and Hiller would have been a good 4-5 million reliever. They didn't even get close.

That Cuckoo card. Who voted for it? If his first name was charles then he would have gotten eliminated first round.

Sorry Manush. You were good but you are no Cuckoo. We all watched Cuckoo play and he was the talk of every steel mill and coal mine. The 70's had the bird. We had Cuckoo.

Some of the voting is a bit of a head scratcher. I'm contemplating a few different voting structures...

1. Give each manager one vote for each ATG team they've played as listed under the manager records (yes I realize there were many years prior to our current recorded history). Or maybe there's tiers, 1-50 teams X votes, 51-99 1.5X, over 100 teams 2X, over 250 teams 3X...A bit radical for some I admit and probably tough to administer, but what I'm trying to solve for is allocating more votes to our most experienced managers without going completely old boys club on the rest of the community.

2. A weighted vote. Each manager has say 25 votes, so Salty can assign all 25 to Cano if he wanted.

3. Combination of 1 and 2

I recognize I'd probably have to quit my job and get a divorce to pull off the above so just dipping my toes in this for the moment.

Many deserving cards of 12-15 year veterans with no card, some guys who deserve a better representation in ATG, yet most didn't get enough votes. Mike Norris. Reggie Sanders. Roger Metzger. Ray Durham. Mike Lowell. Taylor Douthit. Eric Young. Jeff Russell. Hubie Brooks. TORII HUNTER?

I don't get it. Then, complaints in many circles involving small sample size cards, yet a guy with 514 lifetime ABs gets 60 votes.

That said, I'm not interested in any weird voting setups. Just perplexed and disappointed in the results.

Should have been voting on Hubie Brooks 86 card not 1985. I can't remember and cant check at moment but is Brooks 86 card a high injury number? I didnt vote for Cuckoo or Ryne Duran Duran. I did vote for Jeff Russell. I wish Taylor ( Swift I ) Doutit had gotten in. I also didnt vote for Derrick Lee. Since im a franchise league fanatic I would push for the teams lacking players to get more attention. Will Cordero who we already have is better than 2 of the 3 Brooks cards.

While hes not RH Id like to point you to one 2B who is a 1E6 and an 8R :o :o
who also had an ops of almost 1.000 -- henceforth I am just slightly perplexed.

Flaccidos card is ok, its almost all singles-- but it will only get used if its priced on the low side of 6 mil at most.
maybe folks thought they were voting on Placido Domingo???
Now he is really great!

Well at least my campaign to get Mark Teixeira his first card in ATG worked. Tex deserves it. But I do agree with many of you that there are many good veterans who are not represented or underrepresented in ATG.

The thing that really needs to happen to make this game more exciting is repricing the set at least once a year. If the pricing could be at least partially tied to usage and change each week it would be great. I don't see why this could not be done. There could be a built in floor and ceiling for each player with the ability for their price to fluctuate a couple million depending on usage.
