The newest cards are gonna get all the buzz; I just don't want to see history totally left out in a flood of cards from 2-3 years ago. I think some kind of middle ground could be reached. Ideas?

Here was my proposal from the other string...
NEW PROPOSAL AS OF 7/12****
Obviously there are soooo many worthy cards to add, with that understanding here's my proposal.

For each 50 card add we shall max out nominations for the most recent years as follows:
Current yr -1 = Max 1 nomination
Current yr -2 = Max 2 nominations
Current yr -3 = Max 3 nominations
Current yr -4 = Max 4 nominations
Current yr -5 = No Limit to the nominations

For example...it's 2016 so any Card Add this calendar year shall include Max 1 nomination from 2015, Max 2 from 2014, Max 3 from 2013 and Max 4 from 2012. What I think we need to protect against is leaving very deserving older cards on the outside looking in as the most recent and somewhat shinier Harpers and Trouts get voted in. Currently we have 3 nominations pending for 2015, Harper, Goldschmidt and Cespedes. Too many in my opinion...don't get me wrong, Harper's 2015 was epic and deserving, but that should be the exception and not the norm. I'd actually like to be even more restrictive but I don't want to see overbearing here. For the smaller 25 card adds we'd need to adjust the matrix accordingly.

This seems to be to me a thoroughly unnecessary micromanaging of the nomination process. You set up parameters and then arbitrarily change them on the basis of what you may think is a clever  but which subverts the integrity of the entire nomination process. Let the ambassadors have their choices, that is what we signed up to do. Then let the guys who play the game vote on those choices. How hard a concept is that? I plan on voting for a lot of the older cards. But let the people have what they want, it may not be what Andy wants, but then again maybe it will be. In any event, no one had more input into the process than Andy but there should be limits to one person skewing the entire process. Andy is a good guy and very invested in SOM and I play in several of his franchise leagues and understand what he is hoping to get. But let the will of the people decide which cards we get.

Bruce and I don't always see eye to eye on this, but he understands where I'm coming from, and I understand where he's coming from as well. As I've said, I have no problem with new cards, I just don't want to leave out the older ones in the stampede to the new ones. I'm good with community deciding, but maybe a PRE/Post add next time, then a db, etc...

BTW, I have seen more folks than just me express this opinion, so I don't think it is only what I want. :)

Also, as far as my input goes, I signed up for Rosie's proposal on December 26 when he put it on the boards, never figuring it would ever get off the ground. On franchises that others had signed up for, I simply transcribed their wishes to the thread. I listed weaknesses of franchises as Rosie requested, and I made nominations on other threads like everyone else.

That's why its called a proposal and open for constructive feedback. Throughout this entire process I've been careful trying to navigate all the ill will and hurt feelings associated with SOM and in particular adding cards in a timely fashion. You'll notice I haven't mandated anything and tried with the best intentions to guide the process. I would encourage everyone, and in particular those that feel slighted throughout the years to take this into account as you digest my ideas and suggestions.
