As one of the Pirate ambassadors I want to nominate the 1970 Manny Sanguillen card.
On the surface it looks very similar to his 1971 card, he hit slightly better in 1970 with a .325 average vs .319. But that is not why I nominate this card. In 1971 he hit .340 something vs lefties and .298 vs righties. In 1970 he hit over .435 vs lefties and .282 vs righties. I remember his card from the Sports Illustrated baseball game in 1970 and it was just incredible. The card should be a 9L but entirely usable vs righties.

I also want to nominate Dave Parker 1978 and Rennie Stennett 1977. Parker's best year 1(-5) in rf and his other Pirate cards don't do him justice at all.

Stennett was a 1 at 2b and hit .336.

Pirate possibles for the next batch:

1/ Emil Yde. 1924 season. The card we have sucks. His rookie season was wonderful. Led the league in winning percentage and shutouts, finished 21st in MVP voting. would be a non-asterisk SP/RP. A very serviceable 1.201 WHIP. ERA+ of 136. Lefthanded pitching is always welcome.

2/ Max Carey. 1924 season. Two other cards, certainly. This year is just slightly worse than the other two, but still very good speed (led the league in sbs). Switch-hitter, probably a 2R. Would be a good choice for lower caps.

3/ Adam Comorosky. 1930 season. 47 doubles, 23 triples (led the league), a .529 slg. A major improvement over the card we have. Right-hand hitting outfielder, probably a 3/4R.

4/ Ralph Kiner. 1947 season. I know, we just added another season (for his 5e30 prowess at 1B). But here we have a 51 homer season, leading the league as well in slugging (.639), OPS (1.055), OPS+ (173) and TB (361 -- the only time he led the league). His highest batting average ever. We might even dream that he would be a 3 in left. Probably a 1R.

5/ Bob Friend. 1955 season. His best season. Led the league in ERA and ERA+. Would probably be a non-asterisk SP/RP. 1.148 WHIP. RHP, probably a 3R.

6/ Richie Zisk. 1974 season. We have one season (with the White Sox!). http://365.strat-o-matic.com/player/743387/1670/1/70 His best season (finished 9 in the MVP). 5L, no great shakes in the OF. But he deserves a Pirate card.

7/ Jose Deleon. 1983 season. A non-asterisk SP. 9.8 SO/9 innings. 6.3 hits/9 innings. Okay lots of walks, but only 5 homers allowed in 108 innings. RHP, probably a 2R.

8/ Bobby Bonilla. 1988 season. http://365.strat-o-matic.com/player/803734/1680/1/80 A better season than the one we have. Strictly a 3B (and if the world were right would be at least a 2e32). Only grounded into 4 dps in 681 PAs.

9/ Lloyd McClendon. 1991 season. http://365.strat-o-matic.com/player/37781/1690/1/90 A 6L, nothing much in the field. Integral part of the 1991 Pirate team. Would help Cubs and Reds. Plays 3B/LF/RF/and Catcher.

10/ Brian Giles. 1999 season. http://365.strat-o-matic.com/player/413/1999/1/1999 A 2 in LF and RF, thus giving him usefulness in the field. Even in hitting crazy 1999 had a 157 OPS+. If JAWS is anything to go by, the 27th best rightfielder of all-time. Deserves a second card.

I want to second the nomination for 1973 Stargell. With better batting numbers than the 2 cards he currently has without being a 15 game injury risk, this would probably be his best card and get more play. Led league in slugging, OPS and OPS+. Two cards for Stargell and five each for Al Oliver and Dave Parker doesn't make any sense.
