2022 Baseball Daily Tournament – Overview, Rules, Dates

PostThu Apr 28, 2022 12:02 pm

Overview
My name is John (aka Juiced JC) and I am going to be the Commissioner of the first ever Baseball Daily Players Championship tournament. I am a 365 player just like you and I will be participating in the tournament as well. My role as Commissioner is on a volunteer basis to give players who love the Daily format a chance to compete for a tournament championship for the first time. Before signing up, please read the rules of the Daily game if you are not familiar with it. It is a very unique format for Strat-O-Matic in which cards get introduced to the set throughout the season as players debut in MLB, and all cards change on a daily basis based on MLB player's performance throughout the actual 2022 MLB season. So if you like Strat-O-Matic Baseball and you like Fantasy Baseball, this game is right for you. Here are the rules of the Daily format: https://365.strat-o-matic.com/help/rule ... eballdaily

Signups and "First Come First Serve" Explanation
The deadline to join the 2022 Daily Tournament is Sunday May 15th at 10:00 PM Eastern time. However, you are not guaranteed to be a participant if you wait until the deadline to join, because we are operating signups on a first come first serve basis. The first 36 people who sign up will automatically get a spot. If we do not reach 36 people signed up we will not run the tournament. Assuming we get to 36, we would need at least 7 new participants in order to move forward with an additional league. For example, if we get to 43 participants (36 + 7) we will guarantee a spot for those 43 and form 4 leagues each round, and if we get to 55 (48 + 7) we will guarantee a spot for those 55 and form 5 leagues each round. Why do it this way? Well there are less players of the Daily format then other 365 games so we are unsure of the interest in this tournament. Also, it will be very hard to find "filler" teams with less overall players of this format. By signing up you are committing to playing all 3 rounds of the tournament and will therefore require 3 Strat 365 credits in order to play. Please be aware that the 2nd and 3rd rounds will start one week after the previous one started, so you will have to manage 3 Daily teams at one time throughout the main part of this tournament. If interested, please sign up for the tournament in this discussion forum thread: http://forum.365.strat-o-matic.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=651388&sid=e7fedb0e90f4da98e7bf7a665e38e00d

Tournament Format and League Play
The tournament will consist of 3 rounds of leagues using the 2022 Baseball Daily set. All leagues (including the championship round) will use the default for Daily leagues of a $100 million salary cap and a 5% penalty throughout the season, and they will all be auto-draft format with waivers two days after the draft with no restriction on the ballpark being used (repeat ballparks are allowed). The leagues will be assigned via a random generation done by the commissioner using a random list generator. While it is random, there is a chance you will end up in multiple leagues with one or more other participants - it's just the nature of the randomness. The results from each game of each league will count toward the overall standings. Every regular season win you get in a tournament league will be one point toward your cumulative tournament total that will be displayed in the standings on the tournament page (found here). All 4 playoff teams in each tournament league will receive 5 bonus points toward their cumulative tournament scores. All teams reaching the finals in their tournament leagues will receive another 5 point bonus. All teams who win their tournament league championship will receive an additional 5 bonus points. So if your team wins 100 games in the regular season and then goes on to win the league championship, you would receive 115 points for that round - 100 for regular season wins, 5 for making the playoffs, 5 for making the finals, and 5 for winning the championship. At the conclusion of the 3rd round of tournament leagues, the top 12 teams in the cumulative tournament standings will form the championship league. All ties will be broken in the following tie-breaking order:
1. Championships won
2. Finals made
3. Playoffs made
4. Regular season total wins
5. Pick 3 winner

The divisions in the Championship Round will be aligned in the following way: Division 1 - 1st, 6th, 7th, 12th; Division 2 - 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th; Division 3: 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th. The championship round will use the same format as the first rounds of the tournament - $100 million salary cap and the 5% penalty throughout the season using the auto-draft format with waivers two days after the draft and with no restriction on the ballpark being used (repeat ballparks are allowed). The winner of the championship round league will be the 2022 Baseball Daily Players Championship winner!

Tournament Communications
At the beginning of each round I will then send an email invitation to every participant to their assigned league. Some people have trouble receiving these email invites. Please check your junk folder / email filters if you don't receive them, or check with Strat 365 support to see if they have an old email address on file for you. The league assignments and pass codes will also be shared here on the Discussion Forum. Please note that I will not be sending private messages with the pass codes unless people don't join within a few days of league assignment. So if you do not receive the email invitation, look for the league assignment and pass code on the Discussion Forum. Since we are using a trust model and sharing the pass codes publicly, please make sure that if you are a tournament participant that you join the correct league, and if you are not a tournament participant that you do not join any league. If you join a league in error you will be removed from it. You will only have a few days to join your assigned league. It is important to note that you can/will lose your spot in the tournament if you do not join your assigned league on time. So, it is important that you check in here at this Discussion Forum regularly.

Key Terms / Definitions
Tournament Participants - These are the 365 strat members that have signed up to participate in the tournament.
Tournament Commissioner - This is the person organizing tournament activities. This is a 365 strat member who is participating in the tournament, not a strat employee. The commissioner will however be in regular contact with 365 support to resolve any issues and assist with any setup. If there is any dispute about rules interpretations or if a decision is required to resolve a conflict of any kind, the commissioner's decision will be the final decision.
League Closer - The commissioner will assign one closers for each tournament league. The closers can join their assigned league at any time, but they are to wait until the correct 12 teams have joined the league before they set their team as “Ready for Draft”.
League Fillers - Fillers are 365 strat members who are taking up league spots if we start, or end up with, a total number of participants that is not divisible by 12. Filler teams scores do not count toward the overall tournament standings. There are two types of fillers - guest fillers, who are not tournament participants , and participant fillers, who are tournament participants who are entering a second team for that round of the tournament (but only their primary team's totals count).

Notes and Disclaimers
Please note that Strat-O-Matic Baseball Daily game is dependent on a stat provider for daily card updates, including injury rating changes, and any unexpected results are outside the control of this tournament and this tournament's commissioner. All tournament participants are playing with the same set and same circumstances each day even if something unforeseen happens.

Also note that the rosters freeze at the 141 game point for all leagues but in the Daily Format the player cards keep changing. It is also worth noting that the player card updates end once the MLB regular season ends, so the Championship Round will have "frozen" cards for a portion of it due to the timing (likely around the game 141 point and throughout the playoffs).

Because this is a new tournament it is possible that a particular rule or clarification was missed in advance. Please be aware that although the commissioner may put a decision to a vote or may consult with 365 support, any decisions in such matters are made by the commissioner.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if I have left out any important details.

"Every win you get in a tournament league will be one point toward your cumulative tournament total that will be displayed in the standings on the tournament page"

Should this read Every REGULAR SEASON win?

I don't see the dates that the Round 1 and Round 2 leagues finish. Are they all playing concurrently?

Yes they are playing concurrently - Round 2 starts ONE WEEK after Round 1 starts, and Round 3 starts ONE WEEK after Round 2 starts. It's the only way to fit in 3 rounds plus a playoff round during the MLB season. The Round 3 end date was highlighted because that is when we will know which teams qualified for the championship round.

I guess begging for 2 weeks between rounds instead of one would be futile because it would push the end date past the end of the actual MLB season?

Yes, the challenge is the end of the MLB season. As it is now the season will end and the cards will stop updating around the 141 game point of the finals round. That's not a bad point, because the 365 rosters freeze at that point anyway so in some ways that's ideal for the finals so it isn't determine by the cards changing after the point the participants have a chance to do something about it.

I was wondering if this tournament is going to be an annual event, and if so, are there going to be profile participation trophies created for it like for the other tournaments?
