"1. IMO due to its random nature this tournament is the toughest one to consistently compete in (a few of you the obvious exceptions)
2. More is better"

Let the top 24 make the semifinals and then the 12 best records (or other criteria) advance to the final round. Otherwise same format as before.

This doubles the chances of making it to the finals and only adds a one game commitment for the contenders.

With dropping two seasons nobody will ever really know where they stand in the standings without doing some serious homework and even then you wont really know where you stand. IMHO
