mop up

PostWed Feb 17, 2021 6:26 pm

i have no data to back this up, but it seems to me that when HAL puts in my mop-up guy, and the game ends up becoming close again, he doesn't seem to notice it's a competitive game again, and just still leaves in mr. mop-up. i know, i'm as shocked as you are.

maybe there's a more logical explanation, like my other guys are fatigued that day and it happens less frequently than it feels because it pisses me off so much, but just wondering if this is a pattern or just my perception, and if it's a pattern, if there are any measures to be taken. thanks, matt

Probably similar to Avoid LH or Avoid RH. Probably has to do with when entering the game, not so much once in the game.

You might try checking Quick Hook for your mop-up guy. (Disclaimer: I haven't tried this.)

If I have a fairly terrible Mopup guy (most of them are), I often mark him Quick Hook and Max 1-2 IP.

Yeah I've been considering that - my concern is that it will work against the mop-up guys purpose, which is to eat meaningless innings. Definitely worth a try to see.

Depends on the park as well. I dont want a cheap mopup guy getting bombed too long if I'm in Fenway67 and have a chance to get back into the game.

I view a Mopup guy as giving my team two benefits:
1-Eating Meaningless innings
2-A cheap RP which enables me to spend $$ somewhere else, similar to a .50 SP. When this is the case, I want him to have one limited role, and not to pitch too much or too long.
