pitcher preferences?

Can someone explain to me why the computer keeps putting in a reliever I have marked as a specialist and to avoid rhb for multiple innings to get pounded and lose the game?

Not without knowing what your settings are. Avoid usually means HAL won't bring the pitcher in against the Avoided Side Batter, but not NECESSARILY that he will be pulled if facing that side later in the appearance. Quick Hook might help with that.

I'm also a big believer that the more settings you use, the more consequences may occur that you don't like. A lot of dumb decisions HAL makes have to do with conflicting orders that we make in the settings. I always try to have one decent RP with NO settings, enabling HAL to use that guy when my pen is tired, taxed, or unavailable.

The pitcher in question is an R1 9L and just holding a roster spot. I have him on qk hook Lh specialist. I also have the best reliever in the set (on most possible settings). 1 other great reliever and 3 other decent/good relievers. 1 is set on closer the others on no settings. In 2 of the past 3 days Hal has by passed the others and put in the specialist for 3 innings each game giving up 8 and then 4 runs losing the game both times. How can I fix this?

If he is a sixth reliver--especially on a DH team--you can drop him for a .5M starter only that will never pitch unless a starter gets hurt, or a long long extra inning game forces him in as a last resort--on noDH teams the sixth guy is needed more.

One option I have used is to set two mopups with my worst reliever being the second mopup--sometimes my second closer was 1st mopup were the same guy.

I think the avoid setting doesn't work that well for reverse pitchers--I have had the same issue at times, especially on noDH teams--sometimes you just have to dump a roster filler that Hal likes to over use.

One thing I have done for right and left specialists, is check the box for don't bring in before the 8th. HAL is less likely to bring him in early.
