Avoid LHP/RHP

PostMon Feb 27, 2017 1:49 pm

Does the Avoid LHP or Avoid RHP do anything? I haven't noticed that this hitting setting has any effect. HAL seems to have his own preferences as to who will or will not be pulled for a pinch hitter in late innings. Does the setting mean that a hitter set to "avoid LHP" will tend to bunt or hit-n-run more against lefties? Lastly, I only play in the mystery leagues - could it be that these settings have no effect in the mystery leagues but operate effectively in the regular leagues?

It doesn't pull your starters when they begin facing opposite handed relievers. ALL it does is keep a bench player from entering as a pinch hitter against the pitcher you want to avoid. It is not a platoon tool.

If you are playing Gates Brown as your 1b vs RHP, if a LH reliever enters, it doesn't remove Brown.
If you are facing a LH starter, who is replaced by a LH reliever, it AVOIDS bringing Brown in against that LH reliever.

In other words, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR STARTING LINEUP, ONLY KEEPS YOUR PINCH HITTERS FROM FACING THAT RH or LH pitcher you are trying to avoid.

To your question if it does anything, I NEVER USE IT.

thanks. got it. It will only prevent HAL from pinch hitting with that player. Avoid LHP/RHP doesn't do anything else. Obviously, this is an area where the programming could be improved. It is unfortunate when my team is trailing in the 9th and HAL leaves in a batter that has no chance to get on base from the hitter's card.

I have seen it pinch hit immediately for the pinch hitter if HAL brings in a reliever that you have chosen to avoid. (In other words, your pinch hitter might not bat at all--which can be a good thing!--if a pitching change is made when he enters.

In my experience, depends on if leading or not. When ahead HAL won't pinch hit if behind depending on who's left on bench more than likely will .
