How do you make HAL listen?

PostWed Dec 03, 2014 6:39 am

In my league I have two weak pitchers and set them at 7 IP max. HAL keeps trying to pitch them complete games and they are giving up runs in the 8th and 9th, and THEN he removes them. How should I set the "F" setting or should it matter since I have them set at 7IP max (which he doesn't listen to).

As far as F ratings--set them to F8, quick hook to get them out as soon as they start to tire---look in the play by play--at the end of the line on each at bat it will tell you what fatigue level the pitcher is at after the at bat is over.

I think (but not positive--so someone who knows for sure please reply) if you apply an f rating, the max 6 or 7 IP is going to be over-ridden by the F-rating, so leave the F rating blank if you want to apply the remove after 6 or 7 innings--I do this often if I have a really good setup guy.

If you have a weak starter you want to come out quick, do not use F settings at all. Set to "quick hook" and "max 7 innings" or "max 6 innings".

I would love to set it to "text me hal, 24/7, if you got anything you need help with". I can't count how many times I've pleaded with him to change a pitcher, and then had that horrible green text pop up.

80's Mystery League -
My pitching staff is currently 5 no*, w/ 3 S7/R3'rs. My strategy was to use them as Middle Men in their off-night - never happens!

Last nite Gm 1 - Set Schatzeder at Qk Hook, 7/IP Max and no F setting.

HAL lets him go 4 innings - 1st inn/ faced 9 batters, 3 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk and ends inn w/ F7, 2nd inn/1 run, 1 hit, 2 walks, 1 balk ends inn w/ F6, 4 inn/ 1 run, 2 hits and ends inn w/F4. Then HAL lets him start the 5th!!, 1st batter base hit.
Total: 8 runs, 8 hits (2HR's), 3 walks 15.75 ERA!!!!!

Doing the postmortem, all I can attribute HAL leaving him in so long is I had Darwin S7/R3 set as Middle Man (he had pitched Gm 3 the night b4) and HAL never selects my S7/R3'rs as Middle Men, but HAL brought in my LH Specialist in vs. a RHB instead??

Any thoughts??

If you have five S/R (no *) pitchers and the rest are RP only your S/R will only start unless you have a long game and run out of RP only pitchers. If you have a mixture of *SP and non *SP so that the non *SP don't start every 5th day, or more than 5 SP, then they could relieve.
