Super Hal Bullpen Roles

PostThu Nov 13, 2014 5:26 pm

Please bear with me. I don't have too much experience with these Super Hal Bullpen Roles. I would prefer to have my stud reliever to come in only if the score is tied or if my team has the lead. I never want him to appear if my team is trailing. Is there a way to achieve this? He is currently assigned to "setup", "Tied & Late", and "Closer". So far, I've noticed that he does come in at times when I'm trailing. Could this be because "Behind & Late" and "Middle Man" is being unused? Since this is a Mystery card league I haven't been able to decide which guy should be my middle man when I'm trailing.

I'd also prefer to have a reliever that would only be used when my team is trailing and never when I'm tied or have the lead. I'm assuming, the "Behind & Late" and "Middle Man" roles will help cover this.

If you want him only pitching in a Classic Closer role, make sure Closer is marked MAXIMIZE on the Strategy Page

WG, I think you'll find you'll get much better results--as you have surmised--once you fill the middleman and behind and late roles. Also, be sure to have Mopup role filled. Be sure to have two pitchers for each role.

I agree with Coyote---I learned the hard way myself. You need to have all the pitcher roles filled with the exceptions of Lh/Rh specialists, and closer vs left or right, which you just use if a pitcher works in that role.

If a reliever pitches in two straight games HAL will rest them unless it is unavoidable due to a long extra inning game. So fill both roles for each of the other options.

Don't use your worst reliever as the 1st mopup as they may come in with a 5+ run lead late in the came.

Remember to set the roles in correct order too, sometimes more than one role applies and HAL fills them from top down in my experience with the exception of mopup.

I try to have a 2+ inning cheap guy as the second mopup. I have found that HAL will usually bring in the 2+ inning mopup first if a starter gets knocked out in the 1st or 2nd innings even if he is listed as the 2nd mopup.
