RPs - closer - how to set?

PostSat Jun 07, 2014 10:11 pm

Is there a way to set your closer to only pitch the 9th in a SV situation? I've only played in three leagues, and each time the closer shows up in the 8th inning.

Pitch prefs = Maximize Closer
IP/Rel - 1-2 innings - should I uncheck this box, perhaps?

Anything else?
Thanks.

I would think the only way to accomplish this is to ensure all other available roles that affect the eighth inning are explicitly added and that other pitchers who are not the guy you want for the ninth inning save situation are assigned to those roles. For example, failure to assign a pitcher to a role that relates to the eighth inning, such as "Closer vs. R: Inning: 8+; Leading by 1-3 runs; RH batters", means it's possible for your desired closer to come into the game in the eighth inning, even if you've checked the maximize closer checkbox. The maximize closer checkbox doesn't mean "only come in the game in the ninth inning."

So, if Smith is your 9th inning save guy, then 1)add all other roles besides "closer" by using the pitcher prefs page and assign pitchers to them that are not Smith. 2)Assign Smith to "closer" role
