Garcia's Blog 9/15/16- League Options

PostThu Sep 15, 2016 6:56 pm

Hey guys,

It's been about a year since this was brought up here but I wanted to talk about how we can help customize leagues for users. Some of the main things that we've done for some leagues are to skip the regular draft and move to pre-season before any players are drafted. Then these leagues hold their draft by adding players from the free agent pool. Some leagues do this to draft one full team at a time while others do it 'live' with a new draft order every round. We're able to change the waiver draft date (or even push back the league start date) for leagues that need to.

Other custom leagues that we have set up involve a custom player grouping, removing players that don't fit into that particular theme league. To do this, first download the original player set spreadsheet from the player browser here. Then delete the lines for any player you do not, leaving only the players who will be in your league. Then send us your league name and the file! We'll add it to the ATG 'Shuffle the Deck' section at that time (even if your league is not ATG).

If you do this there are a few things to be mindful of. First, make sure there are enough players to fulfill league requirements! That means, if your league requires 4 RP-only on each team, make sure there are more than enough relievers to fill a spot for every team. Second, if you are not running a forum-draft there needs to be enough low salary players where the auto-draft can find replacements for users who miss out on players from their draft list. Everyone knows how the auto-draft works but if you need a refresher check here. We cannot allow leagues that would not have enough players for an auto-draft. Lastly, make sure that you already have a group of users in place to join a league before putting the effort in to create your own player set! These leagues likely won't be joined unless you have a group of users already set up.

One thing that we have been doing lately is customizing playoffs. Of course the default is for the division winners plus 1 or 4 wild card teams (1 for 12 team leagues, 4 for 24 team leagues). In franchise leagues that often leaves an uneven number of AL/NL teams that make the playoffs and they often play each in early rounds. We can customize this to ensure that AL teams only play AL teams in the first rounds of the playoffs before the Championship. We can also change who made the playoffs if the playoff teams who win by our system don't match the playoff system the league agrees to ahead of time. If you have any ideas that you would like to use, shoot us an e-mail and we'll let you know if we can help set it up for you.

That's all I have for this week. As always, please write in to 365support@strat-o-matic.com if you have any questions. Everyone enjoy the weekend and I'll talk to you next Thursday!

-John
