Garcia's Blog 5/21/15- Custom Leagues

PostThu May 21, 2015 4:17 pm

Hey guys,

Last week I mentioned that we may be able to work with unique leagues to provide them custom drafts and if anyone had anything we may be able to do to help to please let us know. Naturally, not every league is the same but we have tried to help make it easier for those who run private leagues.

As I've mentioned in the past, the main things we've done for individual leagues is allow leagues to skip the regular draft and move the league to pre-season mode before any players are drafted. At this point, leagues have been able to hold their draft by just adding players from the free agent pool. Now, no there are no restrictions on order put in place by us for these leagues so they must police themselves. Normally, these leagues have tended to have one manager draft their entire team before moving to the second team, who then drafts their entire team before the third team does, etc. However we can also do this for leagues who have other ideas and would like to skip straight to the pre-season mode.

Everyone here probably knows the user andycummings65 and the many leagues he runs using the ATG 8 player set. We worked with him to make it easier to run his custom leagues by providing player sets just for the players he needs. A quick look at the bottom of the ATG shuffle leagues now show Andy's ALT3.0 S2. This will be used for ANDY'S ALTERNATE HISTORY 3.0 league that he runs and restricts players to only certain years. Only the cards specifically requested by him are available in that league.

We can do this for other leagues as well who want to restrict users from using any player in our ATG 8 pool. To make a request for this, first download the ATG 8 excel spreadsheet here. Then, delete the lines for any player you do not want to be in your league. Save the file as your league's name and we will be able to add it to the Shuffled Leagues list.

If you do this there are a few things to be mindful of. First, make sure there are enough players to fulfill league requirements! That means, if your league requires 4 RP-only on each team, make sure there are more than enough relievers to fill a spot for every team. Second, if you are not running a forum-draft there needs to be enough low salary players where the auto-draft can find replacements for users who miss out on players from their draft list. Everyone knows how the auto-draft works but if you need a refresher check here. We cannot allow leagues that would not have enough players for an auto-draft. Lastly, make sure that you already have a group of users in place to join a league before putting the effort in to create your own player set! These leagues will be private-only leagues. As they will not be public, make sure you have users that will user the set and join a league before working on creating it!

Another suggestion that came this week involved keeper leagues. We know there are plenty of keeper leagues out there and although each of these leagues have different rules, we are looking into this to see if there's anything we can do right now that would make it easier for these leagues to run.

For other leagues, we've simply changed up the divisions, moved the league start date, or just changed waivers to frenzy. Little requests like this are always no problem.

One more thing before I go, the user nevdully's found a card image error for 1962 Maury Wills in the ATG set and wrote in about it. We now have been able to track down the error and the correct card is displayed on the site. Previously, an incorrect card was showing. The card results themselves haven't changed, just the image. Thanks for writing in about this so we could fix it.

That's all I have for this week. As always, please write in to onlinegamesupport@strat-o-matic.com if you have any questions. Everyone enjoy the long weekend and I'll talk to you next Thursday!

-John
