Consider a way to add variety to SOM football play selection. Already a huge set of solitaire offensive formations have been cross indexed with a set of solitaire defenses, posted.
Alternatively, consider a playbook with 6 plays corresponding to each of 6 formations. Each play would have a “read” from a die roll 1-6. 1-2 might be TE look in. 3-4 might be SE Flat Pass. 5 might be RB FLat Pass. 6 might be QB Must Run.
You never really know what the result will be.
See Madden 2003 playbook pdf posted on line.
All that is missing in the great improvements to SOM football, and the major criticism on boardgame geek.com, is the need for expansion of the playbook.
Think about it.
