Here's a poll asking managers to vote for or against buttons that say "PH for vs: LHP / RHP". This would be very simple to implement, I would think.
HAL now seems programmed to PH aggressively for the pitcher in non-DH leagues. Sometimes there will be 165 PH or more PH on a given team in a 60M non-DH league. But pinch hitting for position players is definitely a rarity. In many 200M leagues, with teams loaded with amazing potential platoon PHs, virtually no PHs occur all year. At 200M, 9Rs are routinely allowed to hit R relievers while All-Star 7Ls rust on the bench, and the same happens in reverse. Those 7Ls face lefty relievers while the 9Rs rust away. This leads to lots of manager frustration, and these buttons would change all that.
Possible implementations might work along these lines: HAL could be told to look first for the designated RH and LH pinch-hitter under Team Strategy, then if these are not available, to chose the next most appropriate player off the bench. It might be a good idea to allow pinch hitting only from the 5th inning on. But SOM can work out these details. The main thing is to get these urgently needed buttons.
