NAKL Summer Prospect draft FINIS

According to the rules Zunino and Buxton would not be eligible for this draft as they were in the 2012 draft therefore they were not signed PRIOR to the current mlb season.Isnt this correct????

a)Spring Propsect Eligibility: Prospects are defined as any player that has a signed contract with an MLB organization that has no MLB experience prior to the start of the current MLB season.

b) Summer Prospect Draft Eligibility: Same as above but may include players called up during the actual MLB season, but will not include MLB draft picks that have not signed contracts prior to the start of the summer draft

Normally, you'd be right because we'd have the draft so much earlier, but since we started late, they are eligible. The rules state prior to the start of the draft not start of the season.

Damn wish we would od had some clarification on this before the draft resumed because I would have made some different choices with my 2 picks.I was going by seasons past interpretations

The rule didn't change, only the time of the draft did. Not sure what I could have done to make it clearer

In defense of eligibility of this years summer prospect draft, we had a similar situation just last year. Players from the 2011 draft class were all included. Players such as Bundy, Cole, and Starling (who you selected) etc, were all drafted, so in reality, the precedent was set.

Personally, I think it's best we have a standard eligibility rule, in that we always include, or always exclude, the current years draft picks. One of these years, another Bryce Harper will come along, we'll have the draft earlier than we've had the last couple of years, the draftees will not be eiligible, and the manager with that year's #1 pick will cry foul.

What happened last year and this year cannot be undone, but we should really address this before it becomes "an incident".
