... I want to confirm that, in this league, we can move a prospect onto the 40-man roster even if they have not yet appeared in MLB.

I want to know now if I can keep those 4 prospects in the prospect slots, but can choose to either release them, keep them as prospects or make room for them on the 40 prior to the prospect draft.

Is that correct?

That is correct. If you do not free up a spot, though, then you will forfeit your pick in the prospect draft.

I'm sorry if this was not clear enough. The thought was simply that you can promote a prospect whenever you have an empty spot in the 40-man active roster.

The spot could be empty because of a 2-for-1 trade, for example, or because you did not draft a player to fill it.

Can I make a move like that at any point prior to the start of the prospect drafter does that have to be done prior to the free agent draft?

Any time prior to prospect pick 11 in round 2. If you have roster space, you can pick.

In any case, you already traded away the prospect pick in round 1, so prospect pick 11 in round 2 is the only one in question at the moment.

I'll stand by my earlier response about available active roster spots, because that's how the league has operated from the start.

On the other hand, I replied incorrectly to the phrase about releasing prospects. Per the rules, this can only be done prior to the free agent draft or if a trade puts your team over the limit of 4.

I mistakenly told you that you could release a prospect during the draft -- and you relied upon that. For that reason, you will be allowed to release a prospect now, at the start of the prospect draft, if you so choose (for this one time only, thanks to my mistake).

OK, that sounds fair. It was an unusual situation and I knew enough to ask... but didn't understand the details.

I'll keep Ynoa and Duggar on the 40, keep Greene with the prospects until next year, and release the TRAGIC Royce Lewis, who ruined his knee a couple years ago in the minors, made it back from that to start with the Twins like a bat out of hell this season, and they decided to put him in CF for ONE game, and he made a spectacular wall-crashing catch, and ruined his knee again. Out for the season, twice-ruined knee... even though he was slugging .500 and looked great... he won't get carded because he only had 40 AB. So... someone else will get him in a couple years.

Thank you. That will free up one prospect spot for me second round selection.
