That's funny Dave, I chose '63 for the same reason.
I looked at a couple other years ending in 3, '53 and '83. Almost went with '53, which looked fun too. The middle of the order would feature George Brett, Keith Hernandez and Jim Rice. A year like '83 is interesting for someone picking late in round one...plenty of great players but thin on low priced guys, so you would need to be confident you could identify and lock up a good death year to fill in the missing pieces.
