Phil I read rule 3.12 to mean that a prospect can be promoted to 40 man even if he isnt carded. That way you avoid losing him after 3 years if you want to keep him around. You then must abide by the minimum salary schedule for 1-6 year players. Am I correct ?

Yes, you can promote uncarded prospects. The player control clock starts when a prospect is promoted to the 40 man roster. If you promote a prospect in between seasons you burn their first year of control. You can control a player for nine years, three as a prospect and six on the 40 man roster, before losing them.

There are eight votes to eliminate the supplemental free agent signing period from the rules beginning in the 2021 SOM Card Season (ie. 2022 league seasons), so the rule will be struck after this supplemental FA signing period.

What if they have get a SOM card for the 2020 season? The 40 man roster rule, and the player cut rule, means that you will only be able to use that player during season 2 after releasing players prior to the supplemental FA signing period.

This part of the FA eligibility rule--" In addition, MLB players who were uncarded the previous SOM 365 season, and who had at least 50 at bats or 30 innings pitched during the current MLB season, will be eligible for free agency."--addresses the small number of players who had unleased cards in 2019. They were intended to be treated as FA and not prospects for the following season, but to be FA they need to be very likely to produce a SOM card, hence the AB and IP qualifiers.

So, in summary, any signed MLB player who debuted in 2020, or who has yet to debut in MLB, is considered to be a prospect. Any carded prospects who are drafted after the FA signing period will be ineligible to play in season 1 due to the roster rules, but may be promoted between season 1 and season 2.

I hope this clarifies the prospect and free agency eligibility rules.

Glad I'm not in the supplemental draft, as I'm confused just watching.

Based on the above from December 10, 2020 (only quoted in part, read the rest yourselves), I take issue with Antone being a free agent for the supplemental draft. My understanding is that eligibility is no different than eligibility during the regular FA period in January. Antone had no MLB experience prior to 2020, ie, debuted in 2020 as above, and is a prospect.

I drafted Mountcastle in prospect draft this year after FA. Even though he had more than 50 AB in 2020, he debuted in 2020, therefore was a prospect. This is the hitters equivalent to a pitcher (Antone).

The Mount Joy Bobcats are pleased to announce the acquisition of Whit Merrifield from The Burke Petrographs. In exchange for for Merrifield, the Bobcats are trading SP Nate Pearson and their second round pick in the coming 2022 prospect draft.
